Jimmy Rollins

Jimmy Rollins

Postby RICHARDMILTER » Sun Aug 10, 2008 4:51 pm

I have the third overall pick in a live draft league(that starts tonight). Would it be incredibly stupid to take Jimmy Rollins, considering I would be passing on several more pricey players(in live draft leagues there is no salary cap)? I am sure Chipper Jones,Pena,Ortiz, and several other stud players will be available at 3. But if Maggs Ordonez and A-Rod are taken could I take Rollins without it being a major mistake? I need help fast, and I will thank all that reply in advance!

I would say skip him. For a leadoff hitter, he doesn't have a great OBP, and while defense at SS is important, I would be fine with taking a decent 2 and getting a real masher with your #3 pick!

It is tough to take him third, but he has a unique mixture of talents. He is the only power hitting, defensive whiz and fast SS. You could luck out and get him in the 2nd round, but I wouldn't count on it. I would only consider taking him if playing in a real power park to take advantage of his HR's. You can always find power at the corners, but it is in limited availability up the middle. I just listed him first on my draft card in the "All Citizens Bank Slugging league". If you are going power park, I don't think it's a bad move to take him third. On a Citizens Bank team, I have him scoring 100 runs, knocking in 85 and hitting 30 HR's while playing gold glove defense. Tough for any other SS to match.

Thanks guys, I did not see your replies until today. However you made me feel like I did the right thing. I took Maggs. What was crazy was the guy with number 2 overall took;Freddy Sanchez. I think maybe he made a mistake.

Aero Dave,
When I say the guy who took Freddy Sanchez made a,"mistake". I do not mean, made a bad move. I think he literally made a mistake. Meaning, he must have been looking at Sanchez's profile, and did not know he was drafting him(when he took him). That is the only thing I can think of.
Unless he is Sanchez's family member, or something and could not live without him on the team. But even then, he could have waited until at least the second,or third round. It was extremely strange. It must have been a button pushing error. I would be bumming , big time if I had done that. One time; I meant to decline a trade offer, and I was in a hurry and hit accept. That was bad, but not this bad. Has anyone ever had a serious gaff, such as this? I want to ask the guy what happened, but I do not want to be rude.

Yeah, I'm sure this guy (unless it is Freddy Sanchez himself) made a computer error. I've had a problem with this new live draft. Thankfully it was a 7th or 8th round mistake and not a 1st round mistake.

I have had a couple problems with the live draft, myself. A couple of times I was bumped off line(that was probably my internet connection)during the draft. Then last night in one of the latter rounds; I kept hitting the draft button but nothing would happen. Thankfully, I figured out that if I just put the guy I was trying to pick at the top of my wish list the computer would draft him for me. It seems sometimes the screen just freezes. What was the problem you had(Aero Dave)?

Jimmy Rollins also does not get injured. The more I post about him, the more I like him. A "1" rated SS with 30 HR and 50 steal potential who does not get hurt. What more could you want now that ARod plasys third?
