A potentially serious bug

0 M.Cameron 2-7 Walk b-1
0 1 R.Winn h&r Fly Out (RF) 1-3 b-0 fly(RF)x
1 3 A.Ramirez 4-8 Ground Out (3B) b-0
2 3 P.Fielder 2-2 Walk b-1
2 1 3 W.Pena 2-6 Strike Out b-0

I saw this in one of my leagues the other day and just could not understand how it was possible. Mike Cameron leads off with a walk. Randy Winn is called on for a hit and run. It appears to be successful as Cameron advances from 1st to 3rd. The only problem is that Randy Winn flew out to RF! How can someone advance two bases on a flyout when the result of the play is a flyout?? Does the engine independently predict the outcome of the baserunner in the hit and run before identifying the result of the batter? In real baseball, Cameron would have to tag up to advance. There is no way this would ever happen without some kind of error, unless the RF decided to take a nap after catching the ball. I would really like to know how this happened.

The most frightening thing is that this has probably happened on numerous occasions. It is only now, with the addition of the new information about dice rolls, that we can clearly see the h&r. Otherwise, unless you seriously study these summaries, it would be very difficult to catch this occurrence.

Could you post the boxscore link? I just went through all your active teams looking for Mike Cameron and I couldn't find him; I assume this was an opponent of yours. If this happened last night, I can try to see what happened in our logs, but if not, I'm afraid I can't.

What's more likely is that there's a display bug with the new dice roll feature, and not anything wrong with the game engine. I'll try to figure out an explanation for that play.

Edit: No, it doesn't look like a dice roll display bug - on some H&R attempts the result can simply be a reading from the pitcher's card, in this case a fly(RF)X... now I don't know offhand how a runner advances two bases on a flyout, but perhaps someone else does? This could either be a standard result on the Super-Advanced fielding chart, or it could be one of the max rules in play. I don't think it's a bug with the game engine, but I'm not positive.

Off the top of my head, if could be a weak armed RF and Cameron was able to take tag up and take 2 bases.

I've seen it happen a few times with a runner on 2nd scoring on an OF flyout.

Visick, I really hope that's not the case. That would be completely unrealistic and should be removed from the game engine. Anyways, Jayson Werth was in RF, and he has a -2 arm.

Apparently there is a way for a runner to advance two bases on a flyout, as socalchiro implies... now whether that's a standard result on the board game fielding chart or it's one of the max rules I'm not certain.

Maybe Werth ran into the wall after making the catch and knocked the wind out and by the time someone got to him and threw the ball in, Ol' Mike who was paying attention, tagged and took the extra bases  . You never know :? . SGT D

Well...I'm kinda thinking that's the answer.
But lemme mull it over some more.

We might not be able to determine why Cameron got two bases on this occasion. However, we can alleviate the concern AeroDave raised of a hit & run bug if someone finds another boxscore where there was a H&R and outfield flyout but the runner did [u:cb26f0fca9]not[/u:cb26f0fca9] advance two bases.
