Jeff Kent

Jeff Kent

Postby RICHARDMILTER » Tue Nov 11, 2008 9:34 pm

I was obviously not trying for Jeff Kent to be my second baseman, but since I ended up with him, I am considering trying him at the position. I already have my DH. And my defense is solid elsewhere(Reyes at SS). My pitching is top notch. My stadium is Kauffman. And Kent murders the ball. Has anyone tried him at second base? Or is this a really bad idea? I still have plenty of time to get Sanchez, or Grudzielanek. Utley is even available, but I think he will go before I pick in waivers, and I do not want to waste a pick swinging and missing on him in waivers. I wish Kent could play 1B, like last season. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks in advance, please talk me out of this decision.

After acquiring him 1/4 of the way through the season, he pounded the ball for me at 2B, so I can't complain too badly. Sure the defense sucks, but I really think J-Pav may be on to something if you want to sacrifice defense for offense if the trade-off will really make an impact. I don't advocate doing it at every position, but if everywhere else is situated nicely, Kent's OBP may be a nice thing to have at the top of the lineup.

Thanks, AeroDave. By the way, I love your team name on that team,"The Cleveland Spiders". That is really old school! He put up some real nice numbers for you. I was leaning away from that decision,..but now maybe I will consider it. There are a lot more choices at 2B than I had thought of. I just found another guy I might try for. Waivers are so iffy. I try to see who is ahead of me, and what they need. I usually have great luck in waivers, because I am almost never going after the big names, expensive players, or popular guys. But I also need to build my pen up . I missed on every bullpen guy I wanted but one.

I am in a two team theme league and I have the Dodgers and Nats. I have been platooning him at 2B with Belliard. Kent has been unspectacular so far. Certainly not good enough to offset his lack of defensive range.

I didn't have kent play in the field for me... just a DH here. But Ihave a hard time believing that kent would be an overall upgrade over someone like gruds. But then again J-Pav might be on to something. If you have solid D everywhere else, but could use the bat, it might make more sense than I can rationalize.

This might surprise everyone, but IMHO, in this situation Grudzielanek and Sanchez are much better choices than Kent. If you want to experiment, Kendrick is the guy to fool around with here. :o

Maybe, but probably not in Kaufmann. And 4s in the middle are not a generally recommended practice, esp combined w/ the high errors. He would need a hitter's park, at the very least.

If you can keep him healthy - better have a decent back up just in case....
