after 6 games hal has brought in horgan twice to face righties and has not used bradford or hermanson at all in 6 games. horgan is my cheapest reliever. i didnt have anything checked off except for izzy as closer. now i have put horgan as avoid righties but in my exp hal ignores that anyway. can ayone give me an explanation why he would go to horgan 1st twice in a 3 game series. vs righties

HAL helped me lose the finals of my last league by doing the following:

(1) Have F. Rodriguez pitch to Barry Bonds with two outs, two men on, first base open and Sammy Sosa on deck.

(2) Substitute Amezaga at DH when Ventura was injured

(3) Allowed Hammonds and T. Hall to face Isringhausen in the ninth inning when I had V. Martinez and K. Robinson available as pinch hitters.

I'm wondering why Hall is in instead of Martinez as well.

Picking Hall over Martinez sounds like somehing HAL would do... :P JK.

We all try painstakingly to "corral" HAL into a few known decision loops. But as Bernie posted on his thread about coming back ( 8) ), there's a black box there in the s/w implementation of the auto-interface to managerial inputs--the check boxes, the settings, etc. Like he said, until we can see the if-then-else statements, we're left with the anecdotal collection of tips gathered by those before with much frustration. And gladly, like above, folks are willing to share the pain, because we all feel it at one point...

...which brings me to my last point--Every time I feel boned by HAL, I make a note of it and actually get a chuckle, because I know that somewhere, at some point, someone else will get screwed too and that makes it all better...

More seriously, you may want to set up a shrine to HAL where your computer is--burn some incense, say a prayer, and read a section from Hal Richman's bio as a rite of SOMage.
