out of position....

How come soon as I need a replacement in the field and do not have another position player in that spot, the next ball hit goes right to him for a game losing error?
I'm sure it's standard for the computer to put someone in a slot even if it's not one of his positions-he's probably automatically a 4e... Can anyone confirm this?

Well, I can kind of confirm this. An unrated player actually goes in as a 5 with the worst possible E rating and arm.
One exception: if a player goes in as an unrated outfielder, he isn't necessarily 5(+5)e25. He goes in with -1 rated lower range in LF and RF, and the same e rating and arm as he has in his rated outfield position. In CF, use a -2 for the range.
Example: someone is a rf2(-1)e5 if he has to play left, he is a lf3(-1)e5, if he has to play center, he is a cf3(-1)e5.
