Was there not a rule that both catchers could not go down at once?
I have both McCann and Varitek injured right now and Amezaga playing catcher!!

That's always been the case. Unless you had a third catcher (e.g. Feliz last year) and then you could lose two catchers.
Probably want to point this out to Bernie. Might be a bug. But, check for a third catcher first.

Also, you can't have the back-up catcher listed anywhere else in the settings. For instance, if your back-up catcher is in the lineup as the DH against lefties, then both the starting catcher and the back-up catcher (here, the DH) can be injured.

J-Pav, I'm not sure that is correct. I do know that if your backup C is playing DH he will not be brought in to catch the rest of the game if your starting C becomes injured. He will start the next game as the C however even if he is listed as your starting DH.
I'm of two minds....

Might it not be cool to allow both catchers to get hurt, like could happen in reality? Of course, I know adding a third catcher takes up more cap room, plus in AL/NL only leagues there might not be enough backstops to go around....still, a point worth debating?

I'm positive both catchers can't get hurt. In [u:2e4463ab5f]every[/u:2e4463ab5f] instance someone said here they had 2 catchers get injured, they had a 3rd catcher-eligible player on their team after checking. Never has there been proof otherwise.
In addition, both catchers can not get injured at the same time regardless if one is DH-ing. And as LMB said above, if your starting C gets injured, and your (2nd) C is indeed at DH, someone else would fill in for the remainder of that game, and the B/U C which is DH-ing would remain at DH for that game, and then starting the following game.
One sidenote: Make sure you have your B/U Catcher listed in the expanded substitution place. If I'm not mistaken someone (last year) had a non-C start the remainder of the series because their 2nd catcher was at DH and they didn't have that catcher listed as the sub for the 1st catcher. Hope that's not confusing.
Lastly, on the subject of where both catchers should be "allowed" to get hurt, it would be very difficult on us to allow that. We have no "farm system" like the Majors. We would have to take a cap hit every time both catchers got hurt.

I'm with Jeep. Letting both get hurt would be problematic. This is especially true because most catchers have at least 2 injury chances and very few get > 600 PAs.
Turtle, you sure you don't have a third catcher on that roster somewhere?

[b:81992a0c2e]LM/Jeep[/b:81992a0c2e]:
You may be right.
As [b:81992a0c2e]LM[/b:81992a0c2e] said, HAL will move the back-up catcher from another fielding position to starting catcher at the start of the next game; however, I always thought the back-up was vulnerable for that short time he was in the line-up [i:81992a0c2e]at another position[/i:81992a0c2e].
This makes a Posada/Martinez catcher/1B platoon sort of an interesting idea.
So if Martinez gets hurt while in the line-up at 1B, Posada is unbreakable at catcher?
I don't believe that's right, but being wrong here could be a good thing!

Already thought of that JPav...I'm using Victor as a DH vs lefties on my first '09 team. Napoli is my starting catcher and since he was pricey (and inj-prone) I thought it would be smart to use Victor in that role, almost [i:7538196345]hoping[/i:7538196345] he gets injured. :)
I should point out that team is 3-9 however :x

I've done this several times in the 80's game. I'll put Ted Simmons and his +2 arm at 1B (4e12) and put another catcher behind the plate. This way makes either my C or my 1B bulletproof since they both can't be out at the same time. Simmons hits well enough to play 1B most of the time so it works well. Here is an example of that on a current team of mine.

It also saves you a little money by not having to have a backup C who is usually useless for any other purpose. Most of the time this doesn't work as well in the 20XX game however.
