Thank You Guys (08 version)

A huge thank you to the following 08 players for their many contributions to my teams:

C-Saltalamchia/Ross platoon- You religiously put up 30/90 plus numbers each team I had you guys on, all for about $2.

1st-Fielder- Well you didn't come cheap, but the numbers consistantly put up by you was always a welcome sight.

2nd-K. Johnson- Ok, so you couldn't field with the studs, but your hitting more than made up for it.

SS-Rollins- Thank you for covering up Kelly Johnson's fielding ways, without you, we couldn't have carried him. And you did well enough with the bat too!!

3rd-Bautista- Never great numbers, but always at least consistent. We need guys like you on every team

LF-Dunn- Even though you brought your little pal Jerry Owens for defensive purposes with you, no one ever wanted you. So I learned to put you near the bottom of my list, and reaped the benefits of your hitting prowess.

CF-Sizemore- Who could want anyone else. You played great D, never get hurt, and we can bat you anywhere in the lineup without a hitch.

RF-Francouer- All you did was play great D, kept runners from running wild, hit great in the clutch, and popped an occasional HR.

SP-Silva- Wow, a couple 20 game seasons, at times even performing better than Santana, Carmona and the like. You played for next to nothing as well.

RP-Hampson- Bless your low whip low era, 3 inning eater self. You sometimes pitched more innings than my starters.

CL-Janssen- 40 plus saves many seasons, for a third of the price as the big boys. I think you frustrated as many opposing GM's with your skills as you did the batters.

Sadly, each one of them became free agents, and I do believe EVERY one of them got less of a salary than in 08, except for maybe Ross. They should have stayed. 8-)

My list would include

CF- Aaron Rowand- I've heard some say the didn't like him. But he always was good for hitting 5th and driving in a 100 runs and playing great D.

DH- Dmitri! Always available and he hit 45 double all five times I used him. 62 as a high. Playing in a pitchers park you can't ask for more out of $4.41

RF/LF- Raburn- I caught on to him a little late but he's a beast in pitchers parks as well. 57 doubles 12 triple and 20 homers in the metrodome! good for a 317/344/555 line in my league that is just finishing up.

And I know he's pricy and I know some don't like the injury risk but I think Posada was a great value. There aren't many guys who can get you a 390 obp from behind the dish. Catchers are hard to find but you can build a team around Posada.

BRANYAN / FIELDS

Gonna miss these 2.

Granted their D is terrible and they are DH's, but I've used them in the field.

They both strike out alot but Branyan hit 40+ HR's and Fields hit 20+ HR's when I used them.

Testing Branyan with the new cards to see if he can match his 2007 #'s.

I had 4 of Jerlins' hitters -- Rollins, Bautista, Sizemore, and (platooned) Ross -- on a team that went 92-70 in a division featuring the self-described "luckiest" team (see another recent thread) that went 99-63.

(The spelling of "Chaos" is a joke.)

(I dropped my two LH starting pitchers when it became clear the league was weak against righties.)

Note also Betemit -- DH vs. righties, 35 HR (one every 12.4 AB), 14th in OPS among qualifiers, all for 1.64M.

Got within six outs in game 4 of winning the semi's (vs. the 99-63 team), lost by 2 runs in game 5.
