Good Catcher platoons

Good Catcher platoons

Postby RICHARDMILTER » Sun May 17, 2009 6:56 am

Has anyone used a good, cheap catcher platoon with this year's cards? I am trying Brian Snyder and Henry Blanco. I know usually you should spend a good bit more on the player who is going to face the RHP, however my team already hits RHP well throughout the rest of the lineup, and since all the best catchers were gone I decided to save money by going with Snyder/Blanco. I could also use Barajas/ Blanco, or even Barajas/ Varitek. My park is Kauffman, thanks for any advice.

I didn't know what to expect out of this one, but my World Baseball Classic theme league team wasn't terrible for the money

Brian Schneider (4R, $1.24M):

.257 .310 .369

Toby Hall (5L, $0.67M):

.296 .320 .396

Total Defense

3 PBs allowed
73/103 SBs allowed = .709 (above league average of .726)

ardoin is a steal against lhps for only .58 mil. he's a 3-0-1, t-9,pb-5. however, i've only played him in hitter's parks. laird produces for a cheap everyday catcher.

One game away from a title with Scheider/VMart in Petco. Scheider was bad:
389 29 83 15 3 6 40 28 70 0 0 6 .213 .270 .314, VMart hit .286/360 with 20 Doubles in 200 AB's. Not great, but it let me afford Pujols and I'm in the finals.

i'm surprised vmart got that many abs. with pujols you would think you wouldn't see lhps.

I changed it too Snyder and V. Martinez and I think I am going to pickup Hong Chih Kuo with the extra money. This guy could pitch 200 innings, that would be worth the 5.2 million dollars.

It's not necessarily a platoon, but I've had success with Posada, with Montero as his backup. Consider yourself extremely lucky with anything over 450 AB's from Posada. But if you get close to that, you've got a decent offensive catcher for the cheap.
