First 2008 team. Looking for feedback

Postby phillyphreak » Sun May 17, 2009 12:04 pm

My first 2008 team. Season starts tomorrow.
BallPark: Miller Park '08

Derek Lee and Brian Giles are available to pick up. Should I go for either one? I have a 2 at 1b currently with a slightly better OPB, and Giles has a nice OBP.

Thanks in advanced.

Sabathia, CC L S7*
Sheets, Ben R S6*
Peavy, Jake R S6 I would look to trade for a SP*
Galarraga, Armando I would drop for a .50 SP
Pelfrey, Mike R S6*
Devine, Joey R R1/C0
Geary, Geoff R R2
Ziegler, Brad R R2/C4
Blevins, Jerry L R1
Mahay, Ron L R2
Romero, J.C. L R1/C0

I would look for a more balanced closer.

Iannetta, Chris R C Only seen him used once, good season
Navarro, Dioner S C Great backup
Mientkiewicz, Doug L 1B Pickup Pujols if available
Iwamura, Akinori L 2B Great D, not much O.
Loretta, Mark R 2B Waste of $
Inglett, Joe L 2B Good value, I would start at 3rd.
Glaus, Troy R 3B Way overpriced
Zimmerman, Ryan R 3B Maybe platoon at 3rd with Inglett
Escobar, Yunel R SS Waste of $
Theriot, Ryan R SS Great value at SS
Thomas, Clete L LF Dump for a lefty killer for platoon
Upton, B.J. R CF Overpriced
Schumaker, Skip L Start in LF vs. RHP
Suzuki, Ichiro L RF CF
Thome, Jim L DH Waste of $

You have way too much money sitting on your bench. If someone like Pujols is still available, I would I would definitely drop enough $ to pick them up. I would definitely pickup Giles. Had him on one 2008 team with these numbers BA .308 OBP .403 SLG .455, in another league these BA .330 OBP .411 SLG .519, used him once in a hitters park with worse results.

Thanks for the feedback. Pujols is not available unfortunately.
Giles is available still and I have Ichiro at RF also. I could mpve Ichiro to CF which he is a 2, but I have Upton who only plays CF.

What are your thoughts or experience with D. Lee? Is he worth a look?

I just dropped SS E. Yunel and with my $2.15 still available, picked up Giles.

Thome is not a good option as a DH?

I also thought about going after Chase Utley and offer my 2B Iwamura and another player.

I have yet to see Utley put up numbers equal to real life, even in a hitters ballpark. D. Lee is probably a better bet than Mientkiewicz for lower injury risk if nothing else. With Upton and Ichiro, you could use Giles at DH.

Sounds good. The guys who has Utley also has Jason Werth. I was thinking about offerring Clete Thomas and another player (Loretta maybe).

I could also pickup someone like Steve Pearce who is a 7L and fill that LF platoon position and drop Clete Thomas. I would just go from a 2 to a 3 for Def.

I more or less agree with the individual assessments he made, but this is the take-home message. I would drop Mientkiewicz and pick up Chris Davis to play 1B. Pick up Mike Adams (or D.J. Carrasco) as a solid R2 reliever against lefties. Drop Pelfrey and pick up an extra starter or two who match up well with the opponents in your division.

Hopefully these suggestions will jumpstart your first team in 2008.

Thank you for your feedback. I actually had Chris Davis after the team was drafted, but dropped him to pick up Upton for CF. Davis is still available and is the best bet since Pujols is not available. I would have to drop Mientkiewicz and Loretta to get him. I would also need to hang on to Glaus so that I have a backup 1B and also allows Inglett to play 3B or be a the back up 2B and SS.

Not sure if I will be able to make all 3 moves due to $$, but I will see what I can do.

Drop Upton, he's been bad in every league I've been in, use that $ to pick up Davis for 1B, put Ichiro in CF, Giles in RF, and use Inglett at DH.

Thanks for your reponse. I already dropped Mientkiewicz and Loretta late last night to get Davis. How many 2008 leagues have you been in with Upton? He has a decnt card and I liked his OPB and speed, and I still have Thome. I need to work Giles in as well.
