Expanding the Number of Teams in a League

There are pluses and minuses for expansion to 16 or 24 teams, but either way waivers will be a lot more limited...and interesting.

I'm not sure what the leeway is for the playoff system, but with any choice a revision would need to happen.

My main reason for wanting more teams would be for a keeper league format.

12 teams works fine for the standard draft and play we do now. It just isn't quite enough for keeper league formats.

Unless they change to a draft ranking system, this would never work. For example, if you drafted Pedroia and missed, you could arguably receive the 24th 2nd baseman listed in the set. What is needed for this to work is a complete ranking in order of who to draft, similar to Yahoo leagues. That way, if you miss your #1 ranked player, you won't get buried. At least if you want to build from the middle positions out, you have a fighting chance by ranking your players including an option of having a "do not draft" list.

Well, the Phillies won with the...where would you rank Feliz at 3B and Ruiz at C? I don't buy that reasoning at all.

For auto-drafts, we'd just need to know what our initial draft order would be. Then you could adjust accordingly based on who you think will be available. I mean, just because you place Pedroia on your list doesn't mean you're "drafting" him...just hoping to.

fresh, new and ultimately more challenging. larger size leagues create the need for more creativity and management of talent...after 3 or 4 months of new cards it seems as though there is only 2 differently styled teams that have been developed through trial and error, no experimenting....lets have a trial and see what the interest level is

I think what Jerlins is referring to, is the fact that if you miss on him, Strat gives you the closest 2nd baseman available NOT already on someone else's draft card (which is why you could conceivably end up with the worst starting second baseman in the set). Your draft is then additionally spoiled because you've then just wasted a high pick on a player you would never rank that high. It would be different if they instead gave you your next highest ranked player for instance.

Completely agree there as well, never understood why the AD didn't behave like the waiver draft and just move up your later picks if your current round pick was already taken.

I think if you were to expand the league to 20-24 teams, you'd almost have to have a live draft, for precisely the reasons cited above.

Keep the default (12 teams) as is but make more teams an option.... :) how's that for diplomacy...
