Mystery Solved: Two Catcher Roster Requirement Not Enforced?

Mystery Solved: Two Catcher Roster Requirement Not Enforced?

According to the rules:

"You must have at least 13 and no more than 17 hitters.
- At least two of those hitters must be eligible to play catcher."

There's a team in my league that seems to have gotten away with just one:

Is that rule not actually enforced?

maybe he'll have to pick up a catcher in waivers? hal has never let me have a roster with just one catcher even before waivers.

I had this happen to me once. This is pre-waivers.

For reasons unknown, this occasionally happens.

If a catcher is NOT selected with his 1st waiver choice, HAL will select a catcher. HAL will NOT allow a team to have only 1 catcher.

I believe this happens when you select a catcher whose primary position isn't catcher, and fail to receive him in the draft.

In this case, perhaps Javier Valentin was selected. Since his primary position is 1b, a 1bman will be received instead of a second catcher.

Wow that would be sweet if he just had to keep Napoli. An injury catcher that can never get injured, what an advantage...

However I believe that this team will not be able to make a deal, or a waiver claim, until the situation is rectified. If he doesn't choose a catcher and get him with his first pick, I BELIEVE his entire waiver card will be invalid.

Yeah but Napoli would play 162 games. I wonder how many HRs he would hit.

waivers must have run and he dumped Napoli and added two other catchers. It is now a moot point. I bet he was forced to add a 2nd catcher before he could make any other transactions however.

Thanks for helping solve the mystery.

The owner confirmed he had drafted another player who caught, but was not primarily a catcher, and HAL substituted with a non-catcher when he didn't get that player.

He did NOT pick up a catcher with his first waiver wire pick and those choices were consequently not allowed. So don't let that happen to you!

Still, the idea of playing the season with just Napoli at catcher for 162 games is intriguing. If, say, you were in a league where you did a live draft for most of your roster and just had to autodraft a few players, a team could possibly get away with it.

I think it is easier to do in an autodraft rather than a live draft of 20 players or so because you have to have another owner draft your 2nd catcher (one that does not have C as his primary position) before you get him to get this done.
