My team plays in SAFECO. I picked up D. Wells to protect N. Robertson in the rotation, despite his obscene HRs vs LHBs.

I am trying to make sure he is not exposed to heavily left handed hitting teams.

My thought is this, most teams in my league feature no more than 3 lefties in the lineup vs LH starters. If Wells goes through the lineup about three times (5-6 IPs), that's 9 ABs by lefties. My math says every roll on his pitchers card has a 14% of an HR, including BP chances at 65% (SAFECO = 1-13 HRs). In other words, 7% HRs (50% of rolls land on the pitchers card) of 9 plate appearances by LHBs = .63 HRs per game. Keep in mind this is offset by:

1. "w" lefties only get a single.

2. Wells HRs vs RHBs are quite low, plus he is a 6R.

So far he has yet to impress with a great outing, and HAL seems to love getting him out of the game after 3 runs, even when "quick hook" is NOT checked. I'm going to try "slow hook" max 6 IP to see what happens.

Has anyone had sucess with D. Wells considering the price?

have had him 3 times in vet leagues (where folks were exploiting his poor soul). Fenway, Minute Maid and Petco. All the approx same result--4.6 ERA and about 1.35 WHIP.
I'd rather have odalis perez...or in a left park how about danny haren, joel piniero, tim wakefield...

I had to drop Halsey too to get the cash, but dropped D. Wells and picked up Od. Perez. He will give up a few to LH hitters, but do the math, he won't see as many, especially with hard lefty protection. I gave up Halsey instead of E. Yan, who eats up multiple innings per outing, and has a 2.58 ERA.

Plus I have Shouse and R. Cormier (from the left side) in the pen, Benitez as closer.

I studied Od. Perez's numbers. The high K's and and double play chances on both sides should be a mathematical recipe for a low ERA.
