Losing interest?

Over the past month or so I've noticed a significant lessening of intereted in most of the leagues I'm in. I'm wondering if TSN's recent server problems is the cause, if this is the typical late summer dog days, or if it is a combination of both.

Anyone else seeing an increase in absentee owners on the game site and the boards - more so than in recent years? Has anyone reduced their participation, or quit entirely, because of the recent site troubles?

Or am I just seeing the usual late summer malaise?

Hey Kav, I think the newness of the 2008 season has worn off. However, I think the 24-team format was a good idea. It has people talking. I'm in 13 leagues right now and everything seems normal. However, I'm mostly in leagues with my buddies so I'm not sure what is happening in the open leauges.
Palanion started a 24-team ATG IV league that I jumped in. The chatter has been non-stop since the league started. There have been 40 to 60 messages per day in there.

You might be kind of lucky to be in quiet leagues. There are probably quiet guys like me who are just baseball fans enjoying the calm. I am very shy and rarely post anything.

The majority of leagues I have ever been in have been very quiet, so I haven't noticed any change.

What I have notice is that the boards have been very quiet and there seem to be less leagues. I am guessing that this is because of a combination of the economy (more people choosing free fantasy leagues), the late summer, with a very real effect from this latest malfunction in the boards and the website.
I think it would be good at sometime in the near future for TSN to do some type of promotion to reconnect veterans, and recruit new folks. I think it should be timed for a period when the boards and the website are unlikely to down again.
I think to revitalize the community like it was in 2007, they need a serious promotion, 1/2 off for 2008 card 5-packs, maybe a free week or two at the beginning of next season.
I am not speaking for myself here, I am still playing off my credits from a successful year in 2007, but I want to see leagues upon leagues, and posts upon posts filling up the TSN Strat site once again.

I beleive it is the combo of late in the 08 season and the economy hitting hard. I only play 1 at a time, so I follow that pretty well. 13 leagues or whatever was posted, WOW. I tried 3 during the free 86 league and that was more than I can handle. That would seem like a job and that I already have and kids and coaching and a wife and and and.......... This is making me tired and I need to go take a nap so that I can stay up late enough to see tonights results. Mike

I've still got quite a few credits for 2008, but I'm looking to spread them out until next year's cards arrive. I'm looking forward to the 2008-2009 pre-card drafts and just experimenting with some non-theme autodraft teams as well. I learned last year that 3 months w/o a Strat team is not recommended.

Also...I've been hooked on Hardball Dynasty, which demands much more of my day-to-day time.

I don't know whether it's the end-of-summer / start-of-school chaos, or whether Strat players are just annoyed by the SN server performance of late. In any case, some fine league ideas are languishing.

For example, the new 24-team keeper league has had 600 views of its sign-up page and over 1,000 views of its original discussion page, but only 15 have signed up so far -- and none in the past week.

See http://forums.sportingnews.com/viewtopic.php?t=571305

And a new Summer - Winter Keeper League has had 90 views, but only 3 signups.

See http://forums.sportingnews.com/viewtopic.php?t=573247

Is this slow-down typical of this time of year? Or is something else happening here?
