I'm in, and we're full. . .

I had a few quick questions, which hopefully one of the experts can answer.

1. We are a live draft, standard league.

The "waivers" system is a bit unclear. Since it is not an auto-draft, do waivers apply at all?

[quote:355a552e07]After your draft, you can return to the site, check out your team, and prepare for the start of the season. All undrafted players are available on Waivers at this point, which means if you want to acquire one or more of them, you must place Waiver Claims on them and wait until the Waiver Period is over to see if you got them. After the Waiver Period is over (about 36 hours after the draft), all still-available players become free agents and may be picked up on a first come, first served basis.[/quote:355a552e07]

Nothing here says "Salary Cap Auto Draft." In our league, will there be this Waiver period?

2. We can have a roster of 28 players?

3. How long on Saturday night would the draft take? 2 hours? 3?

I'm a total rookie here, but a Strato fan since the 60s.

Any help clarifying would be great.

Thank you!

Thanks for joining, Artie.

The draft should take about 2 hours, though it obviously depends on the speed of the managers.

We will have a waiver period following the draft. Since you have the 10th pick, you will automatically have the 3rd position in waivers. We live draft 25 players, and then you can pick up 3 extra players for a total roster of 28, given all of the criteria (e.g. 2 catchers, 10-12 pitchers, etc.). You can also pick up extra players by dropping ones that you drafted.

Feel free to ask any other questions.

AeroDave, you are great. Thank you.

1. How long does that waiver period last? a day or two? Do I pick the players right away, or can I do it on Sunday?

2. When does the "regular season" begin? How long after the draft and waiver period?

Thanks for your patience with this newbie. Obviously, I will learn a lot over the next few days.

The waiver period will last until Monday (10/12) at 5 PM EST. The season will then start the following Monday (10/19).

You can plan your moves at any point after the draft until Monday, so there's not too much of a rush. However, the waiver claims are all processed at the same time (5 PM). You can list up to 8 people you would like to claim off waivers, though you obviously cannot claim someone if you already have 28 players and don't drop someone to take that new person's spot.

It's usually wise to be around your computer when the waiver claims are processed. That way, you can see what guys you got, who was dropped, and who's still left. Then you can pounce on the scraps ;)

Since we will have an entire week between waivers and the season, that will leave plenty of time for trade talk. Be prepared, as I am sure you will get a number of trade offers. I have been known to trade a lot, so those offers may very well be coming from me.

Thanks so much, again, Dave.

Few more questions:

1. Is there a time limit for each pick during the draft? 2 min? one min?

2. It seems the smart thing to do (like I know?) to pick 28 for the team, then drop 3 if you want to get players from waivers. Correct?

And this question is open to everyone: what was the BIGGEST [i:f8bbddf30b]surprise[/i:f8bbddf30b] that you had the first time you did a Live Draft, and started in this process? Something that you didn't anticipate, or had either understimated or OVERestimated in your planning?

Would like to hear your feedback on that.

Thanks Dave. See you Saturday night.

There is a time limit of 90 seconds per pick. If a manager is not present, the "auto draft pick" process takes over and selects someone within a few seconds to speed things along.

The draft is 25 rounds, so you will not be able to draft 28 players initially.

The biggest surprise ... hmm ...

Make sure you have selected the right person before you click draft. I do not like the interface that much, and I accidentally drafted a player I did not want because, while clicking through the available players I inadvertently selected the wrong person.
