Question about "Fair Play"

Question about "Fair Play"

Postby chasenally » Sat Oct 10, 2009 12:17 pm

The other 3 teams in my Division have SS that are 3 or 4 ranges with high Error rates for most. This League is $100,000 no DH. I have drafted Rollins, Young and Cabrera. I don't need Young or Cabrera but both are very low injury rate. I plan on keeping them. I have 11 pithchers. Is this fair. I know I am within the rules. The season starts Monday. Thank you Mike

I don't see the sense in keeping Young and Cabrera if you have Rollins. That's 9M you could be spending elsewhere. I would trade them, even to your division rivals, if it means making your team that much better. You must have room for improvement somewhere.

I agree with AeroDave. However, I don't think he answered your question. If you are asking;..." Is it fair to horde the good SS so your opponents can not have them";...yes that is part of the game and it is fair. However, if you are asking;..."Is it wise", I have to agree with AeroDave, that it is not wise. Sure you would prevent your opponents from having a good fielding SS, but the damage you would do to your own team, would more than off set any gain. Also even though I am a big fan of Michael Young's,...his card is not worth the price tag (for this season). Keep Rollins and drop the other two. Use that money to bulk up elsewhere. Good luck.

I also think this strategy is "fair play", though as I already mentioned, not wise. Cabrera and Young are both overpriced, but if your rivals really need the D, then serve up some offers to deal them. You're hurting yourself a lot more than hurting them.

As the one who makes the official calls on these things, I don't see anything unfair about hording talent. You're using up roster space to do so.

Also, the fact that you have a conscience about it is half the battle.

Of all the very nice changes and new things happening around here; one of the coolest is having Bernie weigh in on more things such as this. Thanks for the great new stuff(bullpen 2.0 and 1999,etc.) and the attention to the customers. :D 8-)

Agree, nothing wrong with hording them, but if it were me I'd be shopping them for somebody I can use. And if nobody wants to deal. So be it then.

But it would be unfair play to drop them at 12.01AM, monday morning, wouldn't be?

In my one experience with him, I learned that Young is to be avoided at all costs.

Makes no sense to stock up on them...improve your other positions first, but perhaps make your moves late?

I don't think that would be unfair either. If he can actually afford to take on that extra salary, then dump them once the FA Penalty period starts, more power to him. I see it as similar to real teams making waiver claims on players so that they won't go to their rivals.
