Trade Question

I am in a 24 team league that just finished. After the draft my team was left several million under salary cap(80 million league). A few days before trade deadline, a team opened his roster to everyone for trades. I made trades of roughly 15 million in player value for players of 18 million value( I also traded cash). To me this was a 18 million for 18 million trade. In the end I won my division and now the team I passed is crying foul because he claims the trade was to one sided and not fair. Was I wrong in the trade? Please help?

Absolutely not....a manager has to accept the trade...you offered he accepted...nothing wrong there

Exactly, I offered and he excepted. I can't find anything wrong with this but this other guy won't quite crying about it.

One sided? Now I have heard everything! In a salary-capped league, two things have value: players and room under the salary cap (which can be used to get players). So what if you got $18 million worth of players for $15 million. The other manager can go right to the free agent market to make up the difference.

Instead of the trade, you could have gone to the free agent market and picked up $3 million in new players or used it to upgrade another player. Is that unfair? Of course not.

I once made a trade to someone after the season started where I gave a high-value player for a scrub and I think I got the best of the deal because I avoided most of the 20 percent penalty to pick up a free agent I wanted. Bottom line is cap room in an $80 million league has value.

That was my point. In these 24 team leagues I have found it very hard to completely spend all my money. This guy doesn't seem to understand that it was impossible for me to upgrade my team without spending that left over cash.

All stated above are true, but a newbie would be well advised to think twice before trading with a veteran because there are many variables to consider.

Besides, I have proof that the only thing unfair in this league are the rolls I get.
