I thought those of us that have received the 2005 season ratings disk could start to wet the appetitite by posting some early observations of the cards.

If you think I'm kidding, I'm not. Their card numbers are awesome. Click on their names above to see their real-life stats.

Assuming that those guys aren't around, it looks to me like some of the highest priced hitters will be Helton, DLee, Brian Roberts, Luis Castillo, and A-Rod.

How do the cards look for Sheets, Turnbow, Brady Clark and Geoff Jenkins?

Sheets - looks like he could be effective vs. both sides but more K's vs. lefties. Low BPHR

Turnbow - looks to be better vs. righties. 0 BPHR vs. lefties and 1 vs. righties. Higher K's vs. righties.

Clark - high OB rating but high DP chances vs. both sides. Low BB vs. righties and crappy fielding rating for a CF, 4 for range.

Jenkins - it looks OK. Not as high BPHR as I thought, 3 and 6. Not good clutch but great fielding rating 2(-2)e6.

What about Felix Hernandez (Mariners)? How does his card look? His ratings book numbers look pretty filthy, and he pitched about 84 innings.

The Seattle 'net rats call him King Felix. He's 20 this year, and will DOMINATE the AL.

P.S. Rene Rivera (M's again) came up for a cup 'o coffee last summer, raked the crap out of the ball over 48 ABs, and was sent down. His card must be absolutley sick. Too bad he will never see this type of SOM card again.

Felix will be very good - S7 with -4 hold, he's comparable to Clemens vs LH (13.5 OB, 7.1 TB, 0 HR/BPHR) and good vs RH (17.6 OB, 16.8 TB, 1.4HR, 2 BPHR)

Aren't their numbers so high because their AB's were so low? I don't think this would translate into a great card. Would it?

Certainly it would. The Strat card is made from their stats no matter how many AB's they had. They would probably have a higher injury chance would be about the only downside. That is why people like Gload, Burke, Mauer, etc have such a good card in the 2005 game even though they had low ABs.

Yeah but UNDER 100 AB's??? I would think the cards are made by their stats RELATIVE to how many AB's they had. A .400 OBP guy who had 50 AB's really didn't do much. You need a higher number of AB's to get a realistic idea of what the guy can do. Anyone can get .400 OBP on 10 AB's...how about 100 AB's? Or 200? Do you see what I mean?
