My third keeper league team just became a reality. All are named for the Baby Boomer music that I love:
... Great Balls of Fire - team with great pitching
... Summertime Blues - 24-team league/results hard to predict
... Maxwell's Silver Hammer - team with better hitting
The first two were popular when I first played APBA baseball as a kid. I had to go a bit further afield for the third one, but I learned a great description of SOM when I did.
In studying the Beatles' lyrics, I saw that Maxwell's girlfriend studied "pataphysical science." Not knowing what that meant, I googled it and saw it described as the science of imaginary solutions. It often involves a "pataphor," an unusually extended metaphor in which an idea takes on a life of its own.
Further, a pataphor has been defined as a world where something exists, including the characters who live in that world, entirely abandoning the original context.
In reading that, I realized that SOM is the ultimate pataphor!
