Hi everyone. I'm new to the whole online strat scene and I was hoping some of you could enlighten me.

-How much different is it from the board game/pc game? I have played both for a long time and absolutely love them.

-Are there live drafts with caps?

-What are the most popular card sets?

-What are the major differences between online strat and pc strat?

-Are there a lot of keeper leagues online?

Thanks!

-How much different is it from the board game/pc game? I have played both for a long time and absolutely love them. The online game uses the super advanced rules.[/color:28bd10bcbf]

-Are there live drafts with caps? Yes. Click on the[/color:28bd10bcbf] Leagues available; Ballpark ratings thread at the top of this forum to see the leagues that are forming.[/color:28bd10bcbf]

-What are the most popular card sets? Leagues from the most current season [/color:28bd10bcbf](2008) always fill the fastest.[/color:28bd10bcbf]

-What are the major differences between online strat and pc strat? I'll let a pc user give more details. A must read for all online players is the [/color:28bd10bcbf]Newbie Advice Thread (located in the Strategy forum). It will give you a very thorough overview of the online game.[/color:28bd10bcbf]

-Are there a lot of keeper leagues online? New ones are rare. The only one I am familiar with that is currently trying to fill is[/color:28bd10bcbf] Chin Music League (Keeper League)

Welcome to the (online) game!

As another SOMer once put it, online Strat is more like being the GM with some managerial control, whereas board game Strat is more like being the manager (and obviously the GM, too). Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

There really aren't any live drafts with caps, unless you have some kind of private league that incorporates drafting on the boards or using somdraft.com.

The most popular card sets are the current season 200X and ATGIV. ATG V is due out in the next few weeks. 2009 should be out in some time in March.

Thanks for the help guys. Ive been reading a lot of the threads on this board as well as the league chat ones. Sounds like almost everyone is pretty committed and competitive! Cant wait to start!

One of the best tips I can give is to cover up the player names and focus on the cards - don't get caught up with the normal all-stars as many no-name players can perform quite well.

I am wondering what it takes to actually get a defensive sub entered into a game? I have Shin-Soo Choo in LF (Injury rating of 4) so I want him yanked to limit at bats when I have the lead late...yesterday he got injured in a game with 2 outs in the 9th when my team was up 7-0 (http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/stratomatic/league/boxscore.html?group_id=88904&g_id=135)

I have his card checked for "Remove for defensive sub with lead" and under Manager Strategy I have:
Defensive Subs
Defensive replacement #1 Gabe Gross (L) RF, CF, LF at LF

Choo got injured in a meaningless at-bat that should have been avoided.

Suggestions?

tjbraun:

Not much else you can do. It works most of the time with the settings you have, but there is always a certain amount of uncertainly/randomness in _all_ of HAL's decisions.
