What happened to 0% FA Penalty?

Back when the board was sparse, and we were generating ideas to draw new players into strat, and keep them. the one idea that had the most universal support was to have a 0% FA Penalty as an option and maybe as a default for newbie leagues.
I think that change would answer many of the newbie complaints I have heard, they would not be trapped with a poorly drafted team their first couple times out. I'd love to see that on the top of the project list, Bernie. To help grow this community.

I don't support that idea... I don't believe there was universal support. There could be too much abuse with that system.

I don't like it either. You could have rent a pitchers as you bring in rent-a-SP as you match up each series vs your opponents. The same with the hitters too.

It was not an idea for most leagues, but as an option for beginner leagues. I see so many first timers end up with crap teams, and then realize it is almost impossible to trade in 80 mil leagues, and that if they release and pick up a lot of players their team just gets weaker, they are trapped.

I agree it is not a great idea for vets, although I could see it leading to an interesting theme league of two,

the whole idea behind this, is how do we get a higher percentage of first time strat TSN players stay with us, so the leagues and the boards are booming! It was not about creating leagues for vets.

Having a 0% drop penalty would be a disaster. But, it could make for a fun theme league. Require every manager to drop his entire team every day. Call it "The Daily Frenzy League" or something!

my understanding was it was gonna be an option, tacked onto the 5/10/20 for the first week of games or so. i don't see the harm in offering it as an option, those that hate it, dont play it. it could produce some very intriguing theme leagues for vets as already suggested.

My first TSN Strat experience was positive partly because I was lucky enough to get a winning team but more so because there were some friendy, helpful vets in the league.

Good fellowship goes a long way towards evoking positive feelings about this. If you find yourself in a league with a rookie or two, be sure and greet them. Invite them to the message boards and such.

I remember one old vet "griping" because I was too "green" to know how to build a draft card. I had a guy placed too high on my draft card for his "value" and got him... messing up Crusty Old Vet's whole draft.
It was good-natured, and even though my team was horrible, it was still a fun experience.

Maybe a 7 day (21 game) 0% drop penalty could be given to a manager who was less than - say - 25 strat points.

I think a 0 penalty free agent option might be an interesting diversion for theme league's, but I doubt that it would be as enticing to a newbie as a warm welcome when it comes to sticking around.

Ken

and BTW I STILL can't fill out a decent draft card.

I just started my first autodraft league, and the 5/10/20 is a baked in fact of life.

What I WOULD want is a "minor" league league: 500 pts or less; 300 pts or less; 100 pts or less, where we total newbies could learn our craft without being fish food.

It would be a great place to cut our teeth without becoming fish food.

Bernie, thoughts?

I won my first championship in a theme league with a similar concept. It was a 70s league and the requirement was you couldn't have any championships in the 70s game. It was appropriately called the Guppy League.

You could start such a league and add a points requirement on top of it. Set it up as a private league, give it a password, and advertise it on the boards.

You could eliminate the daily frenzy by putting a reasonable cap on the number of transactions.
