HAL MESSED WITH MY DEFAULT LINEUP

Who's seen this? I have my default lineup set, with subs for my injured shortstop, who was out prior to last night's series. The server formerly known as ___ puts Giambi in as my leadoff hitter! It wasn't one of his faster years (no, there wasn't one, I don't think). I don't get that one at all. Very, very troubling. This wasn't any advanced aspect of the program, I don't think. Some help on this one?

The subs are for defense only. It won't necessarily sub in the replacement player into the same lineup spot, especially when the replacement is a weak hitter and the regular player was a strong hitter.
The computer tries to assemble the most effective lineup under such conditions. OBP is the most important stat for leadoff hitters (not speed), so I'm sure Giambi had one of the higher OBPs on the team.
Hmmmm........doesn't follow........

What you said made sense, until I checked the help file under default lineups. Here's a paste of it -
Setting your Lineups
You can set one lineup that is used whenever your team faces a left-handed starting pitcher, and one versus right-handed starters. You can also designate up to 2 backup players for each position on the field, to fill in for any injured starters at the start of a game. If you don't set a lineup, or leave blank spaces in it, our game engine will fill in the holes at game time. Although it will make reasonable decisions, you can improve your team's performance by setting your lineups yourself.
So I'm still befuddles, so to speak. And the logic would follow that we'd see high OBP's leading off in baseball, which is rarely the case if they run like a Rhino. But thanks for jumping in. I still think this is problematic.

It would be nice if there was an option to leave the line-up intact and only substitute for the injured player in the exact same spot in the line-up. I've seen some really weird "adjustments" made during a nightly series where an injury occurs and any additional offense is almost always negated by the corresponding defensive substitutions.

AeroDave is correct. When a player is injured, HAL will substitute the player you have designated for the injured one. The lineup though that you have set vs. L and vs. R can be changed to anything HAL sees fit when there is an injury. Obviously we are talking about a situation where a player is injured and HAL messes with the starting lineup not an in-game injury.
You are correct though that this causes a problem. I didn't check to see if this is on Bernie's list of things to fix.

I know I'm hearing from experienced players, and it's appreciated. What you're saying is clearly true, vis a vis last night's series, but that means the quote I cited above is incorrect, because I had specific backups in both my lineups for my player who'd been injured at the start of the series. And this indicates a very serious problem, because if you have an injury in game one of a series lasting a couple of games or more, it would screw up your lineup for both games 2 and 3. I don't mean to belabor the point - just that I had the pieces in place specific to the game instructions. Again, thanks for the input. I'm not expecting perfection - just control of my lineup so I can lose gracefully, which hasn't been a problem to this point.
