Worst seasons ever

Worst seasons ever

I just finished a '99 season with a 64-98 team...and witnessed some of the worst offensive performances vs. expectations that I've ever seen. I'd love to see if people have example of full-time players who underperformed this much...ever, and I'd be shocked if they're on the same team:

Exhibit A: Pokey Reese ($6.54M): expected/simmed OPS: .747/.507

Exhibit B: Pudge Rodriquez ($7.6M): exp./simmed OPS: .914/.690

Exhibit C: Johnny Damon ($5.72M): exp./simmed OPS: .856/.645

In 546 plate appearances, Pokey turned in a .186/.254/.253 line and didn't even compensate with SB's, getting caught 8/24 attempts. His overall +/- vs. expectations was (.240)...anyone beat that?

Well, that is pretty bad, but what park were you playing at? At Quallcom or 3Com I might expect some real meager numbers.

Pokey is IMO somewhat overpriced. Obviously you are paying a major premium for his defense (1e8) at 2nd, but I think you also get hit for the fact that he is a 2 at SS, even thought it's highly unlikely that anyone really benefits from that.
