If I want to trade with another team and offer them a $3M player in exchange for a $2M player, will my available cash go up $1M to compensate for the salary difference between the two players involved in the trade? I'm interested in possibly making a trade and then picking up a free agent. If I can't recapture the $1M difference, then the trade isn't worth it. Can anyone answer this question? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Well no. Your initial salary cap will never change. The trade won't work unless he has 1 million lying around. If he does then of course your available cash will go up. That is what makes trades after waivers so difficult it has to ba;ance out the numbers so that the trade will fit under everyone's salary cap.

I think it will Jimbo. Elpasopesos is correct in that your initial salary cap number will not go up but you will have 1 million extra in available cash after the trade.

For instance. Your total cap is $80 million, your players' salaries add up to $75 million giving you $5 milliom in available cash. If you trade a $3 million dollar player for a $2 million dollar player your player salaries will now addup to $74 million giving you $6 million.

Of course you will still need to have the roster spot available and the team you are trading with will need to have at least $1 million available.
