If I do NOT have a guy to play CF at all, will HAL move my next best fielder into the CF spot, and raise his defensive rating by 1?

Just wondering...

Check out [i:6cd4efac4e]Table 8: Outfield Conversion Chart[/i:6cd4efac4e] at the bottom of this rule page. It seems reasonable.

RF: +1
LF: +2
Problem is: Not sure that Hal will send an of to replace the cf. I've seen Hal picked the back-up catcher instead...cf-5e25.

On this 1999 team of mine:

Hill played CF when Everett was injured.

When both Everett and Bonds were injured, Hill played LF and Knoblauch moved out to CF.

I was thinking of trying a little experiment.

I wasn't going to have a CF'er on my squad. Mainly because there are no good choices left. I was hoping HAL would move Markakis over to CF and put somebody else in RF.

That's actually an extremely interesting idea. Post back on the results...assume the season starts Monday for this team?

I know people have tried this "experiment" numerous times in ATG. Perhaps you can ask around in that forum and see what people have to say. The only limitation is that you won't really know the true answer because it doesn't list the defensive abilities for people playing completely out of position, so you just have to cross your fingers that the "experts" were right.

i have a vague recollection that we were told that the outfielder substitution rule was turned off.
