Can HAL do a double switch and if so how can I identify it in the box score?

Yes it can.
You see it when you see two players having their position field change in the boxscore. It's pretty obvious.

It is not so obvious to me or else I would not have asked the question.
Two players could have thier position change without a double switch occuring. Say the 3rd baseman gets injured and HAL moves the 1st baseman to 3rd and puts in a new 1st baseman. Later in the game the left fielder gets injured and HAL moves the right fielder to left and puts in a new right fielder. Two players have changed their position but a double switch has not taken place.

Here is what I mean by "pretty obvious"
[quote:cfebaa24bd]*** BOTTOM OF INNING 7 ***

SUBSTITUTE PH- Clete Thomas
1 C.Thomas 1-9 Ground Out (2B) b-0 F9

Ausmus and Thomas were part of a double switch.

Yeah, Thomas hit for Blanco and Ausmus replaced Holliday. But in my experience, 90%, if not more, of the time you see two players substituting at the top of a half-inning, it's because of a double switch.

Marcus, thanks for clarifying.
The thing I notice . . .

The thing I notice is that while HAL "makes" the right double-switch, he/she often doesn't notate the positions correctly in the game summary.
If a LF is PH for a catcher, and then moves to LF with a replacement catcher, the summary might flip them. It will all be cool in the box score, but the summary is mixed up.
