JETER

Just one of those random thought moments here. Started out with M. Young at SS and got buried by his 3 rating. Picked up Jeter for a cool 6 million plus and have had a drastic improvement in defense and my record. Thing is that he does not do much for my offense. So I guess the question is. Does anyone have opinions on Jeter? is he worth the price? Has anyone had any luck with him and if so, what kind of team ?

Thanks,
j

Jeter is not worth his salary due to his lack of sufficient offensive production. You would be better of with a cheaper 2 fielder at SS. Jack Wilson is a better value than Jeter in the '05 game.

I agree with LBomb, Jeter is not a good value. Neither is M Young. I'm not even that crazy about Jack Wilson, to be perfectly honest, but I like him better than the others. Clayton or Vizquel are good SS values in a pitchers park. Crosby is a good hitter's park value. Everett is a good value pretty much everywhere, but the injuries can drive you nuts. K Greene can be well worth it if there are a lot of LH pitchers in your division/league.

Jeter is a big name and gets drafted frequently by new players, but he's not really efficient. I've seen people win with him, but overall he's not high on my lists.

Good luck.

jeter isnt worth it...not enough offense....
your better off going with cabrera,guzman,castro....
a cheap alternative......make up the hitting somewhere else

Ditto with the above posters.

I actually drafted him for a 2005-2006 keeper league. I think his card will be useful next season. (But probably over-priced again...)

Wrong, Jeter IS worth it, there are better values but he is (obviously, as you experienced) a MUCH better value than Young.

His HRs will surprise you especially in a hitters' park, his OBP will not be as good as his stats would indicate.

Maybe the #5 or #6 choice at SS.

You guys are all just haters! Name me the SS this year with a 2 or above defence who has consistently played well. I am not saying this in defence of Jeter but his numbers from last year are as good as anyone.

I could give you all the SS with a 2 and if you post a good year....I can post a terrible year. Rollins, A-Rod, Tejada....it doesn't matter. I have not been able to get consistant production out of any SS in to 04 set.

With that said, I have been using Rollins quite often because of D and fair price. I keep my fingers crosses on the offensive output but usually just deal! There is no A-Rod for $10 million like 03' that you could build your team around.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++=

I picked up Blalock for a BOB team, moved A-Rod back to SS, he's 3rd in MVP through 70 games and I'm 1st or 2nd in DP. I'd call that good production for a SS. BUT... A-Rod always did play better at SS :) :)
