Interpretation problem

I must not be reading the inning description below right, but it looks to me that Posada hit a single with two out and Gonzalez on 1st, Gonzalez on first got out (not sure how), and Posada went to second. Obviously, this is not possible. What am I missing?

*** BOTTOM OF INNING 3 ***
0 J.Gerut 5-12 Ground Out (1B) b-0 gb(1B)x F9
1 D.Lee 6-9 Single (LF) b-1 F9
1 1 C.Gonzalez h&r Force Play (SS) 1-o b-1 gb(SS)x F9
2 1 J.Posada 2-10 Single (RF) 1-o b-2 bpSI 1-19 F9

I take it to mean that Gonzalez was harpooned at third trying to advance. I know that, in such situations, we wouldn't give Posada an extra base on scoring cards, but seems like Strat forgot about that.

this was a BP single

aren't all BP single*(advance 1 base)?

With the "More baserunning decisions" Maximum Rule, advancing an extra base on a SINGLE* is possible.

Also, MW: I thought that on any play at 3rd on a runner trying to take an extra base, the trail runner (in this case the batter Posada) automatically takes 2nd. Am I mistaken?

On third out the runner from first would reach third before the batter would reach second. Runner at thrid is tagged out before batter reaches second so he is not credited with the extra base. Small detail for this game. It really doesn't matter. Mike

Bernie, I believe that any runner reaches safely a base only if all runners in front also have reached safely a base. In case both runners are at the same base, the trail runner is out.

How aboutif the throw to third got away and Gonzalez tried to score and was nailed at home. Then, runner would have advanced to second before out was made at home. Lead runner would have safely advanced to third before making the final out at home.

Rundown

Gonzalez could have been caught in a rundown between 2nd and 3rd, giving Posada time to reach 2nd.

Ah, I was confused about what the real question was.

Although I think it's agreed it isn't a big deal, the last 2 posts above are possible explanations for Posada reaching 2nd before the 3rd out was made. But I think the game engine simply followed the "play at 3rd on the runner" board game rule I was talking about, whereby the trail runner automatically advances to 2nd no matter what happens to the runner going to 3rd... 3 outs be damned.

splinter,

I made a countdown that I published a year ago (probably in the strategy pages, about findings I did while playing the disc).

If my memory serves well, roughly 60% of all single* or single** become single + decision...that's at least how it is on the CDrom.
