its a small matter but just the same

answer me this please

how is this not an unearned run?

*** TOP OF INNING 1 ***
0 D.Jeter 5 Single & Error - 1B b-2 gb(1B)x
0 2 L.Castillo 5 Single & Error - RF 2-H b-2 bpSI 1-12
0 2 B.Giles 4 Ground Out (2B) 2-3 b-0
1 3 M.Ordonez 5 Strike Out b-0
2 3 R.Palmeiro 6 Ground Out (2B) b-0

2 singles with 2 accompaning E's...how is there no unearned run? The runner advanced 2 extra bases on E's!

My guess is that the errors were charged on the advancing runner. Making a clean play would not have resulted in an out. Unearned runs happen when the error takes away an out.
My guess anyway...

If the errors (which occurred coincidentally with singles) didn't occur:

Jeter singles to 1B. Runner on first. No outs.

Castillo singles to RF. Jeter advances to third. Runners on the corners.

Giles grounds out to 2B. Jeter scores.
