WHIP

Is it worth taking too much notice of the WHIP stats when drafting or looking at pitchers? Lots of people mention it is important but I've never really looked at it. Should I be?? I usually look at BPHR chances if deciding between two cards if they are similar.

WHIP is very important, but you have to consider the context. A low WHIP pitcher with high BPHR will not be a bargain in a hitter's park. But he will be in a pitcher's park.

For me, I've always heard whip is the primary stat to look at. ERA only shows what they did in real situations against other players and in a different home park but whip gives a truer sense of a pitcher's ability. Kind of like how you look at a hitters OBP follow by walks rather than BA and RBI's/Runs. Like what Aray0113 says though. For me, I just use Whip, OBP, or Def as primary to narrow down the field and then start using the other factors to narrow down furthur. I'm doing rather well now for a rookie in 2 of 3 of my leagues and I attribute it to that simple system. Good luck.
