Thats a link to another one of my teams now looking like they wll miss the playoffs or get swept even if we make it there.

Yet again another year of winning more games week to week than anyone in the league for 150 some games. Then, with nine games to go, my best hitter gets hurt for 15 games.....even though he is a 1 at injury. Just before that, my team lost 5 consecutuve series.....after being the best team in the league

Why does this **** keep hapeneing, is this HALs evil balancing method? I mean jesus, 8 of the last ten teams iv built have been like this. looking like 100 game winning teams until the last 20 games or so then the world comes apart?????????

Last league I had a zero injury player get hurt for 15 games and (happened to be my best player) and I went from a 10 game lead with 14 to go to missing the playoffs......what the $%@

The link is bad. Click on the league's standings page. Click your team's name from there and post that URL.

Get in line..........of my 34 completed teams in ATG V, 19 of them have made the playoffs, with 15 of those winning 95 or more games. How many championships you ask? One. My lone champion had the worst record out of the 19 as an 87 win wildcard team. I have had five of my 100+ winners fall to the wildcard teams in the semis, teams that I dominated during the regular season.

I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that having the best record at seasons end is a death sentence in the playoffs. The first round needs to be bumped to seven games because even a 90 loss team can win three out of five with two good starters and some lucky rolls.

Injuries? I don't even want to start on those........sometimes I feel like I am running a MASH unit.

As an alternative to this, I think an extra credit should be awarded to the team that finishes the season with the best record. That gives managers a reason to play out the regular season without sitting starters to avoid injuries in the playoffs as well as reward the manager who showed the most skill throughout the regular season and not just the crap-shoot playoffs.

Changing the series format and a credit to the best record ?

Perfectly in agreement with Aero Dave.

I have finished a lot of time first overall and been ejected by the wild card team. When you lead all year long by watching hard and even making trades, that's very sad.

We shall give a credit for the best record and make the first round in 7 too, in 5, it's too short.

I've written twice to Strato about that and they don't wanna move on it (saying the series are only a question of luck or badluck...).

I don't think that I should be resumed as simple as that.

BTW, this should be a subject of of a new or a edited topic or even submitted to a vote.

I don't think there should be a 7 game semifinals. I'm fine with the 5 game series. I do think that each playoff game (semifinals and finals) should be played one day at a time, rather than two games a day for the first four playoff games of each series as it is now.

oh yeah

dont get me started on the playoff teams. my 4 ws titles come from 85, 88, 90 and 91 win teams. yet i have built at least 10 90-100 game teams that just dont do it in the playoffs.

i actually had one team win 22 consecutive series down the stretch and got swept in the first round. how do you make moves when the regular season and playoffs are soo far apart. Kingdome homer smashing teams always beat me in the playoffs, but those teams are hard to win with in the regular season.

I agree with one credit to the regular season winner, i mean its not like starto or sporting news are losing money on this. it doesnt cost anything to maintain these leagues so give out those credits!!!!!!!

as for the mash unit, yeah, vlad just got hurt for 15 games in another league....even though he had 600 abs and played in 158 games... just dont understand!

Just to play devil's advocate here, some teams that are built for the marathon, just don't match up well with those who built their team with 2 stud pitchers that may have just barely found their way into the playoffs. I've often built sucessful teams with average pitchers that will get me to the playoffs, but find myself matched up against that team with those 2 high end pitchers that may have finished 10 games worse than me. In the short 5 game series, I'll put my money on my opponent.

The best teams do NOT always win in the regular season, or in the playoffs. Just look at real life, upsets happen. The best team on paper does not always win, and if they did, why would we play the games? There is luck involved, sorry about your luck, pick yourself up and try again. Good luck!

No matter what topic we dissect in these threads there will always be compelling arguments for and against our ramblings. I do realize that "upsets happen" and the nature of luck, but I am not sure that is necessarily the basis of the discussion......at least for me. RMilter directs us to look at "real life"........in the real life world of baseball they only play one season per year and yes, end of the year upsets periodically happen. In the SOM world we get the privilege of seeing hundreds of seasons per year thus allowing us to map its consistency and indentify trends.

The trend I have noticed in my limited experience here is that having the dominant team going into the playoffs, is as I referred to earlier........ a death sentence. When I say "dominant", I mean homefield advantage and a winning head to head record. Of course this does not happen one hundred percent of the time but it seems to be more rule than exception.

On a sidenote, I do like AeroDave's suggestion to award a credit to the best record.......that will ease the inevitable pain and stimulate the SOM economy.
