Okay someone tell me what the heck happend here, I won the game but still do not know why my 2nd inning ended.

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/stratomatic/playoffs/boxscore.html?group_id=109785&g_id=976

[code:1:14b37092aa]*** TOP OF INNING 2 ***
0 A.Pagan 1-8 Fly Out (CF) b-0 F9
1 H.Pence 5-8 Triple (CF) b-0 F9
2 D.Wright 1-11 Ground Out (3B) b-0 F9[/code:1:14b37092aa]

why does one column say triple, but another say b-0 F9 5-8 is a triple split to the lf so the CF indication is also curious...

I won the game but I really want to know what the heck happend here.

The batter was thrown out trying to stretch a triple into an inside the park homerun.

It says b-O. That means he started at home and wound up out by the end of that play (i.e. before the next batter came up).

And how the hell does that happen??

I'm not set to aggresive running, why on earth would HAL send a runner in that situation. S T U P I D

He could have safely reached third, overslid the bag, and been tagged out trying to get back.

This year in real life, a Colorado Rockie got thrown out trying to stretch a double into a triple late in the game down by two runs. That was stupid, too. What happened to you may have been stupid, but it wasn't necessarily unrealistic.

My definition of stupid is something that HAL does that no manager in his right mind would do when playing in a FTF game...

this [b:362717913d]definetly[/b:362717913d] qualifies.

I tend to agree with Coyote, Nerrpool and AeroDave: It's part of baseball, and players [i:c32fcd97f3]are[/i:c32fcd97f3] sometimes stupid. Why shouldn't dice reflect that?

If you have the boardgame charts, why don't you check the charts for that specific dice throw and see what MAY have happened.

If not, then check this http://somonline.bluwiki.com/go/Charts

Drill down into "Descriptions" to see if one might fit . . . there are some pretty weird contingencies, including "hidden ball trick," "OF collisions," etc.

Worship HAL. He is our friend.

I don't think it's the rare play in question here where the lead runner overslides the base and gets tagged out because that would only happen on a Fly OF(X).

So, mostly likely Pence tried to stretch his triple into a homer. I think this is a CD-ROM only rule at play here, so I'm not sure what the chances actually are. But Pence being a 1-15 running and the CF being a -1, let's say the chances are the same as a fly B when this rare play comes up. That would be a 70% success rate. In a close F2F game, I might very well go for it. Not all that different than trying to score from 2nd on a single really.

This might have not been a particularly boneheaded move at all by HAL. I think my defending HAL should grant me good Karma for tonight. :)
