Theme league -

Please sign up on the next post if you are interested in this "pure reality" theme league.
It will be a 12 team league, with each player choosing 2 real life teams in a 2 round, serpentine draft on the message board. The rule is that you must simply use the players from the 2 teams that you draft - no exceptions. The roster will be based on the carded players for each of those 2 teams. We will use the unleashed set. The salary cap will be $140 million.
We will do a random draft order to draft teams. In the autodraft (and in any free agent transactions) you can only pick the carded players for the 2 teams you selected in the online message board draft. You must also pick the ballpark from one of those 2 teams - no other team's ballpark can be used. The roster limits must be observed throughout the entire season.
The catch is that you can ONLY PLAY A BATTER UP TO 120% OF HIS 2009 AT BATS, AND PITCHERS ONLY UP TO 120% OF HIS 2009 INNINGS PITCHED.
Failure to observe these rules will reslt in disqualification from winning. I will be commissioner and will be the final say on disqualification. If an error is accidental, the commissioner (me) can consider requests for a waiver of the penalty. Where an accidental mistake is made, it should be rectified as soon as possible, and every attempt should be made to avoid ineligible players playing games for the wrong team.
For greater certainty, if a player was traded or resigned with a second team in 2009, it is the team that appears in the TSN online strat card that is the only team that can use that player.
There will be 2 winners in the theme leauge:
(1) The first winner is the winner of the playoff championships (i.e. as per normal). If the champion is disqualified, then the winner is the losing finalist. If the losing finalist is also disqualfied it will be the semi-finalist with the best handicapped regular season record (see below).
(2) the second winner is the team with the best "handicapped" regular season record. Tie breakers will be based on the highest actual number of wins (without handicap adjustments), and then after that by the usual strat online tiebreakers.
The "handicap" is like a golf handicap. In this case, the handicap adjustment will be calculated as 100 minus the average of the 2 teams' 2009 team's actual real life 2009 victories, rounded down. So for example, Tampa Bay had 96 real life 2009 victories, while Boston had 89. Their average victories were 92.5. 100-92.5 is 7.5. Therefore, if you drafted Tampa Bay and Boston, the handicap for you team would be 7. The second winner is the team with the highest number of strat wins PLUS their handicap adjustment.
Consider the second award winner to be like what happens when a subpar team has a great year, and that team's manager wins the "manager of the year award" even though they didn't win the championship - that is what it is like. Or putting it another way, who causes the largest overall improvement in their team's performance.
So, for the second prize, having 2 great teamd is only "great" if you think you can actually beat their real life recordd - maybe by a lot if you want to win the "manager of the year" award!
The next post will be the sign up sheet. Please copy and paste it, with your name inserted, to enter.
I will post a password for the league and set it up after we get things moving along here! Once we get enough players signed up, I will ask for a random number generator to get the team draft order.
Good luck manager of the year candidates!!!!!!!!!
