Last night, Donovan Osborne pitched his 1st game for the "Tormented Souls". He got hammered:

He faced three leftys in the game: J.T. Snow, Bob Higgenson, and Darren Daulton. The three of them went 2-7 with a walk. But, when I click on "sim L/R Stats" and look at Osborne's stats vs. left handers, it shows 2-5 with a walk. He faced 25 batters in the game (his only game he has pitched for this team), but his L/R Stats only show 23.

Could someone triple check this for me? I already had my opponent look at this and he concurs that the stats are, indeed, wrong. I've just always assumed that these splits were 100% accurate, but it looks to me in this case that something is amiss. There were no errors, sacs, or rare plays shown that would account for anything strange in the game.

He was traded from one team to another. This was his 1st and only appearance for the team in the link as you can see below. Here are Osborne's total stats from clicking on his card:

So, it certainly wasn't any stats added from the other team he was on. It appears that 2 plate appearances are missing.

Maybe Ozzie Osborne is somehow involved... :)

One possibility is J.T. Snow was a switch hitter early in his career. So, if this is the 90s mystery game, it could help narrow which year he has! Unfortunately, my source isn't specific which years he was a switch hitter.

The "BF" statistic doesn't include walks. Your counting is right, obviously -- 25 guys came to the plate, and 2 of them walked. Hence, 23 "BF" and 2 walks = 25. (I can't comment on the LH and RH batter thing because I don't know which was which in the boxscore ... but when you say lefties went 2 for 7 with two walks, I assume you mean 7 plate appearances but only 5 at-bats, i.e., 2 for 5 with 2 walks.)

The J.T. Snow thing is plausible, because taking him out of the mix, does appear to make the stats accurate.

The walks thing does not, since only one lefty walked. (Snow did not walk)

It appears that Snow was a switch-hitter through 1998 and then became a full-fledged lefty in 1999.

Wachovia is correct. I have a RH specialist that has faced 0 LH batters per HAL but still shows a walk vs LH batters,

Sorry, apolivka, I misquoted you. You said 2 for 7 with ONE walk (not two, as I misquoted). This confused the issue. Otherwise, what I wrote is correct.

The root cause of this issue did appear to be JT Snow. I tracked him in other games and his ABs do appear on the Right Handed Hitters side of the opposing lefty pitcher stats even though his is listed as a pure lefty. So, basically a mystery card only thing, and even then, only if a guy goes from hitting one way to another--a very rare occurrence.
