Band of Misfits League 2

Band of Misfits League 2

Postby jugslavin » Wed Mar 23, 2011 11:40 am

Announcing the Band of Misfits League 2! Using
the 2010 player set: an $80M franchise league,
DH, 5/10/20 drop fees...

Pick a team from 2010. Your team would play in its own real life ballpark (Yankees in Yankee Stadium, Giants in AT&T Park, etc.). Signup here
for a draft lottery to determine who gets to pick their team first, etc.

After your team is selected, a 2-round draft would be held in the inverse order of last year's regular season won/lost records (Hey, if you took Pittsburgh you'd be guaranteed the 1st pick!). This would give you a chance to fill a couple of holes. Other weaknesses might be addressed through the trade market. Take your favorite team (if still available), or the best available team, or a mediocre team that you feel could be turned into a powerhouse (Hey Cubs fans, make Wrigley rock!!; the A's just need more offense, etc.). But still, in its essence, a true franchise league!

Signup below. When we get 12, we'll ask for a randomizer to determine draft order. Then, we'll all draft and get the league started with a password.

Interested to hear your feedback.

I am interested, but would like to suggest a change in the rules to a $60M league. I think this would provide a more balanced competitive league and would remove some of the advantage of getting to select early in the franchise draft.

But whatever is decided, I am still interested

New 2010 Franchise League

Postby jugslavin » Wed Mar 23, 2011 8:32 pm

Am certainly open to any ideas re: the best way to put this league together. Am also open to having a draft for certain undermanned teams--or even all teams--of an extra player or two to flesh out a lineup or pitching staff. Shrewdly done, almost any team could well become a threat in this way I would think.

I favor an $80 M cap only in that it gives any team a chance to field it's real team.

OK, if $80M, I suggest we either;

1. Have a two round serpentine team draft. For example the guy with the first pick will also have the 24th pick. In this option you place a minimum on the number of players that come from the first team drafted (say 18 players) and the remaining players can come from the second team.

2. Use the same minimum player concept, but allow the roster to be filled out with players from any unselected team.

I like the first option. It causes you to have to think about the pair of teams and how they complement each other. It also helps to equalize the draft by giving late rounders an early second round team pick.
