First team for 2010 - outlook

Postby BeltranFebles » Tue May 03, 2011 1:25 pm

Here is my first team for 2010. My sense is this team is a sub .500 squad.
The team looks to be light on offense and light on D as well. I actually like the pitching staff, despite getting lit up last night.

Is my assessment accurate?

Any and all critiques are appreciated.

Well I'd make a couple of observations:

I don't think Posey will pay off at 1B. A lot of his value is in his defense at Catcher. I assume you are trying to offset that by playing the 6 injury Santana behind the dish and playing a "3 man game" of Posey/Santana/Kendrick between C and 1B. An interesting out of the box strategy--I look forward to seeing how it turns out. A for effort.

I'm don't think HanRam is very optimal at DH either. If this were pre-season I think playing him at SS and shoring up your other defensive positions would work much better. Gonzalez is good but not great defensively, and on offense, he's not really a great park fit, and hits into a ton of double plays. I actually would have gone with an injury prone SS here like Rollins or Bartlet if I was sold on using HanRam as DH.

Kuo is awesome, but not a good value at Citi. He has zero BPSI and zero BPHRs, and you pay a ton for that which isn't all that useful at your home park. I think you could have saved some money there and used it to more advantage to help your infield defense.

Thanks for the feedback. Well, we're only in the 5% haircut stage and as the owners in my league can attest. I am not hesitant to make moves.
I know that giving up 5% with each transaction is not a strategy for LT success but as I said in my earlier post this team does not strike me as a winner.

Maybe I go get an injury prone SS who does play great D?

I just have a hard time going with a 3 at SS. And my D at 2B is not all that either. They are 2's bit Fontenot has a high e rating.

SS D

Postby BeltranFebles » Fri May 06, 2011 9:22 am

I took your suggestion and picked up Rollins for SS. I also picked up Aviles who I can use at DH when Rollins inevitably gets hurt. My question is this v RHP-- am I better off with Rollins at SS 2e12 and HanRam at DH OR HanRam at SS 3e19 (use Rollins as a D replacement) and Aviles at DH? So is the upgrade offensively from Rollins to Aviles worth the downgrade defensively from Rollins to HanRam?
Aviles is .304/.335/.413 3R
Rollins is .243/.320/.374 2L

I know there are some metrics out there on defense but not sure where to find them.

Thanks.

Rollins OPS of .694 modifies down to .510 based on his fielding rating.

Ramirez OPS of .853 gets reduced to .509 based on fielding.

Aviles OPS of .748 at SS gets knocked down to...GET THIS.... .242!!!

The extra chances at SS really come into play (not to mention the 4 e28)!

Aviles would only be used as a DH. With that said, if I am reading this correctly my best combination is Rollins at SS .510 and Ramirez at DH .853.

It's such a close call that i think it would be statistically insignificant. Rollins bats left handed vs. RHP and is a better base runner. If you are playing vs. a bad catcher or facing right handed pitchers who are weak vs. LHB, I would go Rollins, otherwise Hanram at SS and Aviles at DH to avoid injury and use Rollins as defensive replacement.

Vs. LHP, obviously using Rollins at ss in a no-brainer and a significant upgrade.
