I'm surprised someone else hasn't highlighted this yet, but I thought it would be a good idea to pass along an interesting account by Bob Costas on a recent "Poscast" with Joe Posnanski.

It's in the first 5 minutes, so you don't have to wait long to hear his "Gary Geiger" story.

A cool listen 8-)

My odd story>

Going WAY back. 1960 teams(Yankees with Maris and Mantle). I decided to play an Allstar team against a scrub team just to see the slaughter. So I have Maris and Mantle and Clemente agaist a bunch of .200 hitters. For some reason I had Milt Pappas pitching for bith sides.

Sure enough the score was 25 to 5 but for the SCRUBS!! It was incredible( as I sit here 40+years later) :o I remember John Blanchard was 4 for 6 with three homers and 13 RBI`s. I still have alot of respect for the world of random.
