Lineup Strategy

So I was wondering if anyone had tried this and had any success. I am 17 games out in a league with about a 1/3 of the season left and for the remainder of the season I have decided to experiment with the lineup. I moved Albert Pujols up from the 3 spot to the lead off; taking a play out of the Pat Murphy formally of ASU, to maximize his at bats.

I was just curious as to see if anyone else had even tried to do this and if so, what the results were.

I don't think it makes much sense, unless you have a lot of good hitters that can bat behind him to take advantage of his OBP.

In atg it is done quite often (I have led Ted Williams off on bomber teams many times), but you have a much deeper pool to choose from, and can have a ton of great bats behind a guy with that type of OBP.

He will get more ab's, but I doubt you will score more runs. In the 200X series, your RBI guy has to have some guys in front of him to knock in, or you are wasting your $$ IMHO.

If you are in a DH league with a couple high OB low power guys hitting 8 and 9, it should be fine. You are only losing RBIs the first AB, and you are max ABs of your best hitter.

on an aside. i try to put a speedy decent OBP guy 9th, to give some runs for the top of the order. The order only makes sense the first time through. Then afterwards its all about whos ahead of them in the lineup for that inning.

This tool showed up on the forums a few years ago. As I recall from the discussion batting order mattered little when it came to runs produced. Something like .5 runs/game difference no matter what order you set your lineup. Plug in your players with their OB and SLG and it will give you optimal and worst lineups (and everything in between) for your team.
