I thought a defensive player with a rating of 1 could not give up a hit on a
gb(ss)x roll.

I have a 1 at ss but gave up a single to Berkman on a gb(ss)x roll....

It might have something to do with a runner being on first, so that changes the normal gb(x) result. I think there might have been a thread about this back a few months ago.

Or if the infield is in a 1 can become a 2 and give up a hit.

According to the Super Advanced X-Chart for the board game, when a fielder is holding a runner on (and there is a chart for which fielders are holding runners based on the base the runner is on and the hitter is R/L) there are gb rolls that become singles.

If memory serves, a 1-4 on the d20 for a 1 rated infielder becomes a single if that infielder is holding the runner.

Why would the SS be holding the runner on first?

LOL!! I think the rating change from a 1 is only on "infield in" and "hit and run" situations (I'm not entirely sure on the hit and run though)...although it can be affected if SS holding runner on 2nd

Your infield could be in expecting Berkman to Bunt--an all to common HAL strategy. In high offense leagues, I usually set my team strategy to NOT put the infield in before the 5th inning. How is yours set?

Mora is not a * type base stealer (at least in the 2010 set) , so I don't _think_ he is usually held.

Infield In is set to 3rd inning. Im stumped.

The SS or 2b (depending on the R/L of the hitter) has to cover 2nd base if there is a steal attempt.

I was going to break out the board tonight while the Indians game was on, so I'll jot down the info regarding holding runners and the effect on defensive rating.

Here is the wording from the Super Advanced Fielding Chart:

If a symbol is followed by a "#", then in the following two situations use the symbol "SI2" in place of the original symbol:

1. The infielder is positioned IN defensively.
2. The infielder is responsible for holding a runner on (see the Super Advanced Holding Runner Chart to determine which fielder is responsible for holding a runner on).

CHART:
Runner on 1st, LH hitter : 1b & ss
Runner on 1st, RH hitter : 1b & 2b

Runner on 2nd, LH hitter : ss
Runner on 2nd, RH hitter : 2b

Runner on 3rd : 3b
