Am I missing out on not playing ATG?

I really have no interest in ATG. To me it doesn't seem like there would be much draft strategy because of the loads of talent available to everyone.

Am I wrong?

This is why playing theme leagues can be fun. I think a lot of regular ATG players look for specific themes so that not all cards are available to everyone.

The fun with regular auto-draft salary cap leagues can be had, too, by challenging yourself. You can build teams around a certain player, a certain stadium, or a certain player type.

I used to think that ATG must be kind of boring because it's the same player pool all of the time, but with a little bit of creativity you can enjoy it just as much as the 20XX leagues.

The reason I really like it to start ,was learning about the ear.Nly ATG players I didn't know anything about. Started polaying with just the players I knew about.Now I -ick differant style teams for each price range

I think it is certainly harder to win consistently in ATG because there is so many good players to chose from. That's the challenge for me. Playing ATG. If u have a team style u can certainly put it into effect. If u want an all 1 defence u can get it without other teams stealing the players to fulfill ur strategy. U want an all 40 homerun or an all 300 avg u can get it. There is definately no scarcity.

Personally I don't care for it. There are just way too many players IMO and they just keep adding more and more all the time.

I started playing in ATG I. My participation declined after ATG III. The humongous draft pool is not a plus for me. It's a little(lot ?) too much. I mainly play live drafts now when I play. The top ranked players in SOMO, who are mostly ATGers, usually do a live draft almost every weekend and it was common to have a half dozen players with over 10,000 ranking points in a league along with a bunch of other talented regulars. I found these drafts very challenging and fun. Filling out a $80 draft card is more frustrating than fun for me now. There are just too many selections. If you are going to play, I would go for $100 or even $140.

If you're a beginner like myself (I've been playing for a few years but I'm not near as polished as many here) then it seems you have a great shot at doing well in ATG than other more talent restrictive seasons... Just as Bomber was saying.

I've actually won three divisions out of five tries with one Championship (which was my only one until last night...I got my second one in 2002) in ATGV. And I would guess that ATGVI would be even more forgiving with the added players.

One thing about ATG is there seems to be a decent amount of leagues that restrict the point levels of partcipants, which is good for beginners.

I play only ATG now, mainly because of my interest in baseball history. And just about all of the leagues I play in feature a unique theme or salary cap, which limits your selection considerably. One of the most enjoyable ones was started by Andycummings in which each player agreed to manage one of the original 16 ML franchises on a rotating basis for each of 16 seasons. But you could only draft players who played for your franchise between 1888 and 1925. It required a bit of research!

In another interesting theme now ongoing, you can draft only those hitters salaried $3 mil or less, but there's no salary limit on pitchers!

It's themes like this that make ATG so interesting and enjoyable.

i like the mystery card games the best. you really have to stay involved the first 50-60 games reconfiguring your team. wish we had an atg mystery game.
