james shields has 10 pickoffs so far. 14 is the modern day record by a rhp believe it or not knuckleballer, charlie hough. coukldn't find single season by a lhp but i think petitte holds the career. anyone know it? more amazing he hasn't allowed a stolen base! will strat give him a minus 10 hold rating or what? hope he makes it the whole year without a sb. what a cool record to have.

I haven't looked up any records but.....you really think Pettite would have more than Terry Mullholland? He was a master of the pickoff move.
And I get your point about Shields. What is the biggest hold rating you have seen in SOM? Bruce Chen from the 2010 set is a -6. Do they give out bigger hold ratings than that?

In ATG, Doug Bair (TOR 88) has a -8, and Todd Burns (OAK 90) has a -7.

petitte had more but for some reason baserunners kept trying to steal on him. they just stopped cold against mulholland to the tune of 1 attempt every 35 innings. petitte pitched 16 years to muhollands 10

Shields has a respectable -2 hold rating in the 2010 set.

Check that
Terry Mullholland played for f'ing ever!!! 20 years in the bigs! 12 teams in all!
According to baseball-reference.com his SB stats are ...
35 steals in 85 attempts (50 CS!). That means he and his C's nailed 60% of those who even tried...and only 85 tried in 20 years!
He also registered 49 pick offs in his 20 years....with 15 coming in 92 alone(32 GS and 229 IP)
Pettitte had 94 picks but he was a starter his entire career ...he also allowed 176 SB while catching just 86...a 33% rate

don't know where i got the 10 from? where did you find those other stats? i know 14 is the single season record for a rhp, is 15 the record for a lhp? shields already has 10 so hopefully he can break it. teams will probably wise up. which catcher has the most pickoffs? not caught stealing but pickoffs.

Best historical stat site on the web!
I searched by name and then scrolled down to fielding. Go to next to last colum on right (PO).
