Looking for advise on how to set up a pitching staff

Postby Pirhala » Sat Jul 16, 2011 2:32 pm

I have not been playing this game very long, and I have very little experiance with Bullpen 2. Here is a link to my team, I would appreciate any help in how I can set this staff for maximum effect. Many thanks in advance.

I like your pen and I think HAL would use them right without setting them much. I would set a closer or I think you might see Papelbon do most of your closing with his C5. He is the highest WHIP on your team.
Good luck.

I think you've spent to much money on back-up catching. You could spend the extra money elseware

Don't give up Martinez. Just had him hit .372 with 13D and 28HR in 172AB.
It was at Yankee Stadium but you can't complain about that. I love the guy. Only .228 against RHP but I get many catchers that can't hit.

I second chase's opinion on Martinez. Use him as DH vs leftys. Mauer will get hurt sooner or later, you can use Molina as defensive replacement. Maybe trade Stanton or Hart. Of course I am in your league so take my advice with a grain of salt

If you don't want to leave it to HAL here's how I would set up the bullpen, but I'm far from an expert:

Closer vs Left-Bard Closer vs Right- Uehara
Setup- Madson
Lh specialist- Downs (set to avoid rightys)

You could also set Bard to avoid rightys and Uehara avoid leftys, though that can cause HAL to use up your relievers earlier in games than ideal. You definetely do not want Papelbon as closer, he'll get crushed sooner or later.

Thanks for all the advice. Blackjack you may be right about the pitching staff. I was actually considering just setting Bard as my closer. Your right about my catchers. I think I am actuall starting Martinez against lefties with and avoid righties tag on him and a defensive sub tag on him. Molina is strictly there in case anybody goes down, and not to mention the limited free agent pool we have

Thanks for all the help guys

In this game only 1 catcher can go down if you only have 2. If the first catcher is injured and you only have 2 on your roster than the second catcher [b:8e683bb366]CAN NOT [/b:8e683bb366]be injured even if he rolls an injury. If you have 3 or more catchers on your roster than all can be injured until you have 1 left. Don't have 3 or more unless you want to.

Did not know that. Seems like a dumb feature, though it probably saved one of my teams that had a catcher injured late season when I couldn't pick anyone up. I understand the logic since three games are simmed/night but since rosters are at 28 everyone should either have to carry 3 catchers or accept the risk of having someone play out of position. Also, allow late season injury replacements instead of the current "no transactions after game 132" system currently used.
