I'd like to see a league formed with all the top strat kings going at it! I don't know how we'd be able to see the season as it unfolds but it would be interesting........what yall think??

Cool idea...or even top 100 in 4 separate 24-team leagues (ok, so that math makes it top 96...but top 100 sounds better)...funneling to a final 12-team battle royale:

The 2 teams that made the championship in each 24-team league would make up 8 of that 12....and the remaining 4 would be the best remaining records from each of the 4 leagues.

How does one determine the top players?

Postby BDWard » Tue Jul 26, 2011 9:44 pm

Glanny: What would be the definition of a "top player"? The guys with the most points obviously play the most as well, but don't necessarily have the highest winning percentage, the highest playoff percentage or the highest championship percentage. Would your playoff include ATG managers only or would it include mystery card managers and managers from the current card set?

The players with the most points put their pants on one leg at a time like the rest of us. There are many players with far fewer points who have winning percentages and playoff percentages that are just as good as the big points guys. They just don't play as often.

I like the Barnstormers Tour Tourney and the (now defunct) Good People Tournament because they give managers of all experience levels a chance to play against each other, with the managers who do the best in the tournament making the championship round. If you want to be the best, you have to play the best. I REALLY LIKE the concept of everybody getting into these tournaments and playing their way to the championship round. It's kind of like the online Strato version of the NCAA basketball tournament.

I'd hate to think that the best players would be defined as those who have the most time or money to spend playing the game. Such a definition would deny a championship opportunity to many deserving players. - Bernie W

Manager selection

Postby ROBERTLATORRE » Tue Jul 26, 2011 11:08 pm

Just don't exclude the #1 Manager from the 86 card set, he's a regular Casey Stengel / Joe Torre / George Steinbrenner / Pat Gillick all rolled into 1!

Of course, I am a "All Time Strat King"(yes, I pillaged the kids college fund to get there), but I don't see anything wrong with what he proposes even if they use manager ratings. There already is a Tourney(The Players Championship) that meets your above referenced qualifications. If someone started a league or mini-tourney where only players with 10,000 wins and a .525 winning percentage or for winners of 3+ 2010 championships, I would be excluded and I would not feel slighted. It happens every once in a while. You can't make all of the people happy all of the time.
