First real 2010 team opinions

Did a trial team, but that doesn't count. Unless you can't tell I like to try and get a team that will hit well. I missed out on 4/5 picks (Hamilton, M Cabrera, Tulowitkzi, and Choo. Luckily someone dropped Werth after waivers and gave me a big bat.

First off, I know my top of the order is not good when it comes to OBP. I'm not really sure what I could do about that. I did have DeJesus for CF, but decided that a 1 with very little injury chance but less OBP was better than a 3 that was very injury prone.

Lineup vs RHP:
CF: Jackson
SS: H Ramirez
RF: Werth
DH: Thome
1B: Huff
C: McCann
LF: Scott
2B: Espinosa
3B: Viciedo

I figure with 3 * guys at the top of the lineup would be the best place for them, followed by my HR hitters. Everyone on the team has a chance at 20+ (hopefully 30+) HR's save for Jackson. Just hope that they actually hit them.

Any thoughts or ideas? thanks!

In Coors, u want all players to be N power. Jackson isn't. I'd want a little more OB from my leadoff guy.

HanRam can and should lead off for ya.

The team isn't too shabby. 3B/LF defense is bad and you could be susceptible to a decent LH pitcher. (Reverse LH types).

also with that lineup you have 4 LHH in a row....prime target for a hard L reliever in key spots late in a game

hmm.. I understand what you are saying, but not sure the right way to tackle that. Is there a better mineup configuration, or should I look for drops/trades?

Most guys try to construct their lineups to avoid more than 2 or 3 guys batting the same way in a row. In an 80M league all your hitters are pretty good so an "optimal" lineup isn't really all that vital, but 4 LH guys in a row can be easy pickings for some cheap pitchers.

One other minor thing I would do is get rid of Parra as your 5th starter. You really want a "starter only" there. HAL will find too many ways to use a S5/R3 and Parra will get his bell rung pretty bad at Coors.

I like Cain and Blanco in CF although they are both W as well. Good D and good value. Check out this line from Cain who batted first or second (which he could do behind Ramirez) v RHP:

Cain, Lorenzo R CF 2(0)e9 600 101 203 46 7 7 94 45 113 18 6 9 .338 .382 .473

Injuries could play on your team. Your Catcher and DH amount to much of your cap on offense. Both have low injury rolls but if they go down you will be in trouble. PA = 600 AB or they can go down for up to 15 games. I would trade your catcher and find a masher for less money or even platoon that postion. Thome will hit many HR's but I have seen him hit around .230 almost everytime. He is better than Bastisa who stinks and I don't know why. You will need N power at all or most all positions at Coors. Look for LH and RH matchups as you will find them for less money. Your SS will rock but is it worth it for the 3 range?
Checkout your park and look for those that will help you on offense as some might cost you much at all. Morel at 3B will be very good with his card and he is very low priced.

How well does the game handle platoons?

I could downgrade Thome to Ortiz and get someone to hit lefties. But how well does the game handle what happens with the RP's switching out?

Also, about CF. I can see exactly how Cain or even Blanco are better hitters than Jackson, but does Jackson having a 1 in CF along with 3 game max injury outweigh that?

What if I moved Werth to CF (a 3 I know) and pickd up Cruz at LF, Bruce at RF, Alexi Ramirez at SS and moved Hanely to DH dropping Thome?

I know Cruz is a huge injury risk, but that move would save me about 600k and I would upgrade my backups witht that.

So I would have:

C: McCann
1B: Huff
2B: espinosa - 2
SS: A Ramirez - 1
3B: Viciedo
LF: N Cruz
CF: Werth - 3
RF: Bruce
DH: H Ramirez

I would lose some LH hitters in my lineup, but then I could go:

H Ramirez
Cruz
Huff
Werth
McCann
Bruce
Ramirez
Espinosa
Viciedo

Would that be an improvement?
