Normalization

Is it on? How much does it affect the game? I've seen some really weird swings for my teams this year, but I just had SUCH a turn of luck from games 1-81 to 82+ that I'm figuring it's turned on. WHY?

Really? I find it very very hard to believe....how do we know it is not?

I suppose the Red Sox/Braves are probably muttering something about normalization.

Is your evidence anecdotal? Compare the record for your last 10 teams post and pre game 81 and see what you come up with.

It's anecdotal, but it's also something I know was done in the past, so there is precedent.

This year, several of my 2010 card teams have gone on weird streaks in the second half of the season, but nothing like my latest, in an all-AL league: 53-28 at the midpoint, 3-18 since.

It could be coincidence, but I'd like to hear it from someone in a position of authority that normalization is not in play.

I'm not sure what you mean by "normalization." If you mean your cards are adjusted based on how they have done so far in the season, the answer is "NO!"...

Let's say you have a player who hit 50 homeruns in the season his card was based. However, in your league, he gets incredibly hot and hits 45 homeruns by midseason. There are some games that would make him less effective the rest of the season in order to produce more "realistic" season results. Strat-O-Matic does not do this. It's not an option in the game, so there is nothing to turn on.

Another definition of "normalization" is...

There are some special disks Strat-O-Matic has that normalize different eras so the different eras can play on a level playing field. However, you can see exactly what your cards are (or potential cards in a TSN-SOM mystery game). Whatever you card is at the start of the season, it remains unchanged. See this web page for details how that works (search normalize):

From your original post, I don't think this is the normalization you are talking about.

Is that kind of like spreading the wealth?

Does this have anything to do with me forgetting my keys this morning? Am I being normalized?

Because the search function for these chat pages doesn't work (404 for me at least), I can't find an old thread from a couple years back when Normalization for contemporary Strat cards WAS on for the game, and people even got credits for it. But it's been done in the past. It may not be happening now. But I've seen such wild swings from teams of mine, it just makes me wonder/suspicious/paranoid.
