How much is an * worth?

Does anyone know or have an idea what an * is worth for a starting pitcher?

My guess would be a 20%-25% increase in value as they can start about that many more games.

Any thoughts/info?

Mike.

A good example Mike is Lee and Lester from the current set.

Lester has the *, Lee does not.

it was calculated a 1M +/- by some serious researchers a few years back...think Luckyman or JPav did the work

I think the Lester-Lee differential might be a little low. I only looked at salaries so maybe the stats shift in lees way but the price difference is only .28 Mill which seems small

Isn't it just %25 of the value? If it isn't, that would create mispricing in the cards that someone could exploit. Think of it this way:

Take two pitching staffs, one with 4* copies and the other 5 non * copies of the exact same card. The value of each staff should be identical, since you have the same card pitching in every game, so the cost of each staff should be the same.

Thus, the * pitchers must cost %25 more than the non * pitchers.

I guess the fact that non * pitchers can often be injured for longer periods of time than the * pitchers may create a small difference from this, but I would imagine it would be too small to really count for much.

Thats what Im thinking 25% for that reason, the 25% extra starts.

Lee is 5.97, if he had the * he would be about 7.50... Does that look right?

that seems a bit high. for example:
Lee had these #s:
12-9 212.1 195 75 18 185 -3 1WL 3.18 1.00 3R
Adam Wainwright, who had a 7.7 salary posted these #'s:
20-11 230.1 186 62 56 213 0 2WR 2.42 1.05 1L

waino's are better almost across the board (he also gave up 15 homers to 16 for lee)

id put lee at around 7.15
which is between Ubaldo and Ver

I also assume that a * adds 25% to the card price. In other words, your pitchers should be equally good if you spent $20m on five $4m SP cards as if you spent $20m on four $5m *SP cards. Thus a $4m SP card should be equal quality as a $5m *SP card.

With Lee and Lester you also have to factor in that Lee is an S8 and Lester an S6.

The 25% is logical though I think it needs a slight adjustment since the 4 man rotation also needs to spend 500,000 on a fifth starter that is not needed with the 5 man rotation.
