Murphy strikes out a ton. He is a great defender and is not gonna get hurt for very long if he gets injured. Lynn is a good defender but not great. He also is going to get hurt at some point and probably more than once. he would also produce a lot more offensively. Is it worth it?

I think that Murphy is over priced in 86, except maybe at parks like Kingdome. In pretty much every other park, I think you get better value out of CFs like Henderson, Yount, Puckett, or Bradley.

Lynn only looks like a good value but you need to have a good backup CF, so add at least .75 to 1M to his price. Frankly, I like some CF platoons (Milner/Dernier Milner/Walker or McDowell/Hatcher McDowell/Walker for example) better than Lynn and a backup.

On that team, I certainly wouldn't drop Murphy and take the $$$ hit as Murphy is a better park match than Lynn anyway.

I agree w/ apolivka on this. Lynn is a far better card and a far better value. If it were pre-season, I'd drop Quisenberry and put those $$$ towards a backup for CF. But apolivka is right that taking the drop hit on Murphy's cost is a no-no.

Here are some teams I've had Lynn on:

all right, you guys talked me into it. I am keeping Murphy. It is rough as he just doesn't hit and he K's all the time. He is an awful expensive guy to have just for his defense. I didn't realize the league was a 20% hit until after the season started. It is only my second season of Strat and my other league was 5/10/20 and I ignorantly assumed this league was the same.

Obviously nobody will trade for Murphy and I have exhausted trying. It is really tempting to drop Murphy because I don't think his card should cost more than $6 million based on dice roll probabilities and lack of productive outs on his card, as well as even a slight negative for his clutch hitting. I can't find a spot in the lineup for this black hole.

K's are not a bad thing in this game. I am never concerned with how many times my team strikes out. I want OBP & SLG from my offense. "Productive" outs are a lot less productive than a hit or a BB. A strikeout isn't any less productive than a pop out and is less harmful than a DP.

Murphy's offense isn't great, but the defense will make up for some of it and then you can hope for dingers.

Agreed. I welcome strikeouts as an option from my slow-footed sluggers.

I guess I'm not used to Strato online. But I care most about OBP, speed, and middle of the order must have a neutral to positive clutch factor. I can't stand loading the bases with no outs and watching a couple K's in a row killing the inning. I have only had two teams and I haven't particularly liked either of them but I think I am starting to get a little more understanding. If I do a third team soon I think my roster will be put together better.

I looked at the the charts in the defensive rating run prevention thread and basically the difference between Murphy's and Lynn's defense was only a handful of runs over the course of a season. If it wasn't for Lynn's injury rating I would gladly do the move. But in reality the injury will cause a big difference between Murphy's and Lynn's run prevention as Lynn's backup would play a decent amount and I can't afford a capable back up.

So I'm gonna hope I get close to 30 bombs and 90 RBI's from Murphy. So far he has just been absolutely brutal in clutch situations seemingly never coming through. But my first team I had in Strato I made some moves because I didn't like certain cards and I paid for it diminishing the value of my franchise due to cap penalties. Despite your warnings I made moves anyways and blew the season. This time I am gonna listen lol

Highest paid 8th hitter in Strato is Dale Murphy lol
