So I am playing in Houston and fortunately 2 of the other 3 division home parks are also pitcher's parks. I didn't land Tim Raines who I really wanted for my squad.
I see holes at C, 1B, 2B vs RHP, SS, and DH. I know I need to completely build a rotation. I don't plan on keeping Cox as his $'s are a little wasted in a pitcher/s park. Somebody in a hitter's park would be better valued with him since he only has 1 out 216 dice rolls with a ballpark effect homer.
I have already completed one trade. I filled some holes by trading Phil Bradley and Rob Woodward for Jim Rice, Nate Snell, and Tommy John. I like Snell's and John's card for my park at their value. Jim Rice's high BA and OBP is going to bat 4th for me and hopefully with Gwynn and Boggs setting the table there will be a ton of RBI opportunities for him. I was basically able to replace Bradley and get Rice, a usable reliever and a spot starter for almost the same Price. I didn't have a use for Woodward as I don't like Right Hand Specialists. If you bring them in and the other team PH's you get a terrible terrible matchup and that reliever still has to face the batter.
I had tremendous success (or luck) with Quisenberry as my closer last season and I'm gonna give him a shot again this time. Fred Lynn is injury prone so Nixon is pretty key to have behind him. Tony Phillips is solid vs LHP w/a great OBP and his clutch hitting has me thinking of letting him play vs RHP as well at the bottom of my order.
I have a ton of cap room so I'm not too worried about SP pitching. The nice thing about being in a pitcher's park is there is almost always somebody that can fit your rotation as their are plenty of unusable cards in hitters parks so despite some pretty bare free agents right now I expect somebody I can use to pop up when the frenzy hits after waivers.
Am I on the right track or would you guys suggest I go a different route? My last season the advice I got from you guys directly led me to a championship. I really appreciate it.
