[quote:6a80906d22="Hackdog99"][quote:6a80906d22="fantasy_professor"]I'm not as old as it looks. Just watch a lot of Youtube and go to Oldies concerts at least once per year. Go Red Sox (but their gonna proly kinda sorta suck this year). Don't like the way Selig & his cronies decided to start the extra wild card this year with the top seed(s) opening up on the road. Who does that??!!![/quote:6a80906d22]
I'm happy about it. I am sick of the Red Sox playing for 2nd place. If you can't win the division then you deserve to be in a one game playoff. I am a Sox fan myself. I think it hurts the Red Sox but will bring back some excitement to the regular season. I really believe if they weren't resting people and coasting in September while they thought they were assured a spot in the playoffs they would never have gone on such a losing streak. Once they stopped playing hard they just couldn't turn the switch back on again when they needed to.
I would be fine if it went back to just 2 teams in each league personally but I think this is a nice compromise. 3 division winners and then 2 wild card teams play that one game elimination to see who gets in. I think ratings will be higher down the final 20 games. More teams will be in the playoff race. And the one game playoff is essentially the same thing as guaranteeing the playoffs start with the equivalent of 2 game sevens.[/quote:6a80906d22]
As a Phillies fan, I hate the new rule. As Fantasy Professor said I cant believe the #1 seed in the playoffs will have to play on the road for the first 2 games. Recently, we have seen a lot of teams who are worse than others but win the WS just because they get hot at the right time. I liked the idea of 2 teams in each league because then the best team in each league is more likely to make it to the WS. I dont think the playoffs should be based totally on momentum.
