Here's a "feature" of the site rebuild that might be the most universally appreciated, and it can be summed up by two words:

[b:4833eb1d85]No ads.[/b:4833eb1d85]

*** - This comes with this understandable qualification - Strat-O-Matic management reserves the right to change their minds in the future based on their business needs - but as of now, the new site will launch with NO third-party banner ads. Management has told me that in the short term, if they do want to take advantage of any extra real estate on the new site's pages, at most they'll want to simply promote SOM's own products, which I think you'll agree is appropriate.

So again, I'm not promising any permanent situation, and if things do change I'll support whatever my new bosses decide... but for now: no ads.

Awesome...Even ads in the whitespace wouldn't be bad....it's just that damn floating banner "survey" thing that always pops up that kills me!

Any idea if new site is going to be iPad friendly? The IPads new ios browser does not allow to access submenus from each.category

So far, yes, it works great on the iPad. No promises on everything working perfectly in the end, but as of right now the new site in development is working way better on the iPad and iPhone than the current site.

Nice. I disagree with keyzcik--no ads is a good thing. Having looked at the bandwidth drain and and how "active" the ads are, good riddance.

Bernie, as part of the overhaul could you include an adjustment on how you have grouped the various time periods for franchises and players? I think the expansion era is better represented if it includes players/teams starting in 1961. Technically some baseball sources even consider 1953 the beginning of the expansion era with the the franchise moves of the St Louis Browns and Boston Braves. Since literal expansion began in 1961 i would think that's a good place to peg the beginning of the era. It would be a great help i think for franchise themed leagues.

There are ads?

Oh right, Firefox + Ad Blocking add-on = no problem

dont like firefox--and dont like add-ons. and it's a moving target as the code styles change, which changes the intended functionality of some pages depending how theyre coded. To each their own--but ads or not--there is a load of click tracking.

I know nothing of bandwidth or code styles. But I could care less about ads. They don't really bother me.

If they can reduce my price per team by using some adds, bring them on. If not...meh.

I know this sounds crazy......

.....but will it be possible that 80's will have 2 versions? The original version kept unchanged & the new updated version. The reason being, some of us have keeper leagues & ACTUALLY like the game just the way it is. I'm all for change but i'm afraid the new salary structures & added players to the pool will change the game in a negative way. I like the game the way it is now for my keeper league, but would welcome an option for a change of pace. I don't feel like it should be one or the other. Just some food for thought

Thanks,
Jeff
