Question re: relief scrubs

Hi all,
I'm new to this, and I have a .5 mil relief pitcher that I want only used in absolute emergencies. Unfortunately, he's getting some work. It sucks when a guy like that gives up a hr in the 10th inning when KRod hasn't even played. What strategies do people have for avoiding guys? Is it a good idea or bad to click on "mop up"?
